Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) became furious and shouted at Ethan Anderson (Emile John) that she “hoped he’d rot in hell” as she watched him being driven away from Emmerdale in a police vehicle.

Following his father’s call to the police, Ethan was placed under custody by vicar Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin). Ethan had admitted to him that he had been the driver of Nicky’s (Lewis Cope) vehicle when they were in an accident; Nicky was left critically injured and struggling for his life.

Ruby momentarily returned home to await word on her son and ran across Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb), who had discovered Nicky after the accident and had contacted an ambulance.

As the two women became closer over Moira’s own experience of child loss and Ruby’s concern for her son, Ruby resolved to get vengeance on whomever was to blame for Nicky’s predicament.

After leaving, it was clear that Ethan was the one responsible, which made Ruby put a target on his back right away.

Ruby can be frightening even in the best of situations. She has shown this in the past by kicking Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) in the groyne when he irritated her, among other physical antics. She was quite vicious in her retaliation against Tracy Robinson (Amy Wyatt), ordering Caleb to ruin her company.

The Miligans will be devastated to learn that Nicky cannot yet be awakened from his coma in later episodes. Caleb, still reeling from this news, runs across Charles and Ethan in the hamlet and becomes enraged. Caleb becomes enraged and wants to kill Nicky when he sees Ethan seemingly fine while Nicky’s life is in danger.

Cain and Ruby, who saw Ethan out and about at various times, both agree on this.

Later, when his son is not to be seen at the local festival, Charles becomes nervous. The townspeople are shocked as Ethan hobbles onto Main Street, covered in bruises and blood, just as the celebration is getting going.

He falls on the pavement.

Before that, viewers will see Ethan becoming the victim of a premeditated hit-and-run, in which a vehicle strikes him and then screams its way out of the scene.

While Ethan’s worried relatives round him and an ambulance is sent, Ruby, Caleb, and Cain observe from afar.

Was there any of them that was at fault?
