Abi Webster left ‘horrified and disgusted’ as she is hit with deepfake porn attack in Coronation Street

Actress Sally Carman has revealed that Abi Webster would be left “horrified and disgusted” in forthcoming scenes on Coronation Street when she falls prey to deepfake porn.

The mechanic is going to have a difficult time in the following days when she finds out that Corey Brent, the man who killed her son Seb Franklin, is the subject of a recent documentary.

After viciously beating Seb and leaving Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) seriously wounded, Corey killed Seb.

Abi finds it repulsive that Corey is being portrayed as the hero in light of the documentary’s revelation of his new endeavour as the captain of the jail football team.

Sally said, “It feels like she’s been ambushed in her own house.” All of a sudden, not only is Corey in her kitchen, but he’s also having a fantastic time, being bigged up, and being honoured there. It feels to her like a sucker strike to the gut.

Abi and Nina, enraged, dash into the TV studio’s producer’s office and demand explanations.

When Nina and Abi visit the Weatherfield Gazette website the next day, they are encouraged by the encouraging remarks and overjoyed to see that a petition has been launched to get the documentary cancelled.

Abi’s optimism, however, is short-lived when drug dealer Dean Turnball shows up and asks Abi to bail him out of a difficult situation.

Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) observes as Abi sends him away, not knowing that Tyrone is about to break some awful news to Abi once she opens an email with a startling video.

Later, Abi discovers with horror that other websites have her sex film up for viewing.

It’s something that takes some time to fully register; what is this? She finds it difficult to comprehend.

She doesn’t remember seeing this film, so there’s a lot of maths to do, but she is aware that it’s feasible since she has had blackouts in the past, which have presented chances for someone to exploit.

“Dean deserves her head because it appears that he was the obvious offender.”

As Sally disclosed, Abi cannot recall ever creating the video, and although she acknowledges that it may be her, she finds it difficult to believe that it is.

It’s frightening because it brings her back to that period of uncontrollable behaviour. She’s interacting with a whole other person, which is part of her Jekyll and Hyde nature. She’s appalled and repulsed, but she finds it difficult to believe that it’s really her.

She has always struggled with the idea that this isn’t who she really is. Anyone who is forced to go through this will find it extremely difficult, but how can you even begin to cope with it when you have no recollection of it at all? It must be horrifying to watch oneself in that most vulnerable situation.

She makes plans to see Dean, certain that he is the one behind the video, and shows up with a wrench.

He maintains that he has no clue what she’s talking about when she accuses him of producing the sex video, but Abi doesn’t buy it.

“She pursues him with a wrench, intending to murder him!” Her feelings are erratic and confused. She’s doing well, and it’s true that you may change and forget who you were in the past, but it’s obvious that there has been a lot of pain and suffering. She reverts to her old, fight-for-your-life protective attitude and is unable to reason. She is prepared to murder him while she is in there.

But after a while, other films surface, and upon closer inspection, Abi discovers they are all deepfakes.

Although she seems relieved, I believe that she is mostly perplexed and reeling, wondering how and why someone could be doing this.

These aren’t quick fixes; creating a believable deep fake with this level of detail requires resources and effort. It seems so much deeper now than when she first believed it was Dean—he’s a jerk, and it felt terrible—but it’s really someone else, and they have ulterior motives. She is very afraid, bewildered, and irritated.

Will Abi discover the true culprit behind the videos?
