The physical violence that Emmerdale’s Tom King (James Chase) inflicted on his wife Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) has reached a horrible new level.
He became enraged upon seeing her conversing with Mandy (Lisa Riley) and Lydia (Karen Blick) on the puppy cam.
After talking about Belle’s desire to become a mother, Mandy joked about what a father Tom may be. Mandy joked that he may need to be informed that changing a diaper wasn’t the same as ‘wrangling a piglet’ since he’s a vet, much like Paddy (Dominic Brunt).
The remarks were playful and humorous, but Tom was fuming with rage at what he saw to be Belle and her family members’ disdain for him. He maintained a façade of civility when he came home, but as soon as he was alone himself with Belle, he let his emotions be known via aggression.
Following this, Belle informed him that their marriage was ended and that he needed assistance with his anger management. Tom pleaded for another opportunity, promising to obtain assistance.
After this, Belle was filled with optimism, and in later episodes, she reminds Tom that he made a commitment to get assistance. He accepts and schedules a meeting with Jonny McPherson’s character, Liam, which he shows up for.
But instead of discussing his personal issues, Tom informs the doctor that Belle is the one who struggles with self-control. He claims that he is finding it very difficult to cope with Belle’s forceful influence over him.
Tom has worked hard to conceal his actions from others, and by intimidating and degrading Belle, he has made sure she won’t speak out. However, her family begins to notice that something is off.
Mandy and Lydia discuss Belle and realise that she hasn’t been herself, which makes them concerned. When Belle consistently ignores their calls and texts—which is unusual for her—their concern grows.
They start to worry that Belle could have suffered a dreadful fate.
Even if Mandy and Lydia aren’t sceptical of Tom now, is it possible that they will soon believe Belle is in danger because of her husband?
