Coronation Street’s Bethany to exit as Lauren’s killer is ‘unmasked’ by newcomer

Bethany Platt is convinced that evil Nathan Curtis is responsible for Lauren Bolton’s murder in Coronation Street.

In Coronation Street, Lucy Fallon’s character Bethany Platt muses of moving out of Weatherfield the next week. She thinks that Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) death was caused by her evil ex-boyfriend, the evil Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper).

Bethany’s mother, Sarah Barlow (Tina O’Brien), takes extreme lengths to get her daughter over her sex offender ex once and for all. Will Sarah suffer consequences if she is found out, or will the police find more evidence that links Nathan to the crime?

In later episodes, as Nathan drives by Sarah in his van and causes her grief, Sarah and Bethany denounce him to the police for breaking the conditions of his licence. Sarah confronts Nathan at a building site, telling him that it cost him £10k to get out of town, just as Bethany is thinking about leaving Weatherfield once again.

After Nathan fires her, Sarah comes up with a scheme and comes back with a plastic bag that has Lauren’s hair bobble, which was discovered among her things that were left at the Platts.

Sarah is forced to admit that she planned to leave the hair bobble in Nathan’s truck as evidence of his participation in Lauren’s murder when Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) catches her in the act. Kit tells her to leave the problem to the cops.

Following a search of Nathan’s vehicle in which Kit discovers many USB sticks, Nathan is taken into custody on charges of violating his order prohibiting sexual harm.

Sarah asks what they found in Nathan’s truck, and Kit says it’s one of Lauren’s hairs, implying she must have dropped it. He promises not to mention Lauren by name.

Sarah divulges her plan to capture Nathan and cause his arrest to Bethany and Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).

The narrative deepens when DS Swain reveals that Nathan is obviously upset after learning that the female who had previously provided him with an alibi for the night Lauren disappeared has suddenly recanted her account.

Nathan is questioned by DS Swain on his fascination with young females and the potential that he killed Lauren, but he doesn’t say anything. In a sincere attempt to convince Bethany that Nathan is the real murderer, Daniel promises her that he would never turn on Sarah. Otherwise, the real murderer may go unpunished.

While denying any wrongdoing to his attorney Joel Deering (Calum Lill), Nathan believes Sarah has fabricated evidence against him. Daniel and Bethany contact Nicky Whitley (Kimberly Hart-Simpson) in a last-ditch effort to build the case against Nathan. They beg her to put them in touch with Ellie (Lola Blue), who they feel has important information.

Ellie tells Bethany about her encounter with a client who, after showing her a lot of affection and acting like a lover, became aggressive and threatened to kill her. When presented with a picture of Nathan, would Ellie recognise him as her attacker?

Fans have been teased by spoilers for Corrie that “discover who really killed Lauren” would be revealed the following week.
