Emmerdale star refused to ‘cover bits with tape’ for naked sex scene written by mum

Emmerdale and Corrie star Gaynor Faye was nervous when she found out she had to strip off for her role in Between the Sheets – but she soon got over her trepidation about being nude

An ITV soap opera actress, who was stripping for a risque part, declined to use tape to conceal her privates.

Gaynor Faye’s most well-known roles are those of Judy Mallett in Coronation Street from 1995 to 1999 and Megan Macey in Emmerdale, which she played from 2012 until 2019. Her filmography also includes appearances in Playing the Field and the comedy Fat Friends.

However, her most ethnic part to date was for the 2003 miniseries Between the Sheets. Georgia Lovett was portrayed by Gaynor in the sultry series, which starred James Thornton from Emmerdale, Norman Wisdom, and Alun Armstrong. Gaynor had to take off her robe in front of James, the actor played by John Barton.

In 2003, she said, “[The script] stated: ‘Georgia looks at Simon.'” She takes off her robe to show that she is nude. Upon first glance, I wondered, “When is this being shot?” I went straight to the gym when I learned there were just three weeks left!

After thinking of such magic creams, the celebrity said, “I hurried around the stores asking, ‘What have you got for lift, tuck, and emergencies?'” Fortunately, however, she didn’t have to worry since James, her co-star, was there to comfort her.

Gaynor eventually gained the confidence to show her true self without using sticky tape to conceal her privates. “I didn’t bother covering up my bits with sticky tape during rehearsal,” the actress said. It was going to be more humiliating the more commotion I caused. There were just around nine people there instead of forty since it was really fast and anyone who didn’t need to be there wasn’t.

Since I had previously collaborated with James, I felt at ease. There was nothing to worry about since I had my partner and he has his; I’m not sure what it would have been like if one of us had been alone.”

To add to the awkwardness, her mother Kay Mellor, a drama writer who also wrote for series like Fat Friends, is revealed to have penned the sex scene. In the miniseries, Gaynor played the hostess of a lap-dancing club alongside professional strippers who were “semi-naked” during the sensual part, which left Gaynor “tongue tied.”

Gaynor claims that by participating in her mother’s projects, such as 2021’s The Syndicate, she never intended to face accusations of nepotism. “I guess she asked if I would play the part and I didn’t want to slip back into that old, boring, ‘You’re only doing it because your mum wrote it,’ nepotism thing,” the actress said at the time.

However, I reasoned that the character was still there even though I hadn’t been in her world in 13 years and was accessible despite being an unemployed actor. She has a wonderful personality, and I wondered, “Am I just going to watch someone else do it?” No, I’ll carry it out. I performed my self-tape audition as per normal, and the BBC accepted me.”
