Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney joined the ITV soap this year to play Cassie Plummer.
Claire Sweeney of Coronation Street has temporarily left the cobbles to embark on an exciting new project: the gripping murder-mystery thriller The Good Ship Murder on Channel 5.
Renowned for her portrayal as Cassie Plummer, the actress briefly left the serial opera to appear in a Mediterranean movie with Catherine Tyldesley and Shayne Ward, two former Corrie favourites. The programme promises a comeback with of even more thrilling storylines featuring the formidable duo of Catherine’s driven First Officer Kate Woods and Shayne’s entertainer-turned-detective Jack Grayling.
Claire is scheduled to make a comeback as the endearing Cruise Director Beverley Carnell, while Ross Adams from Hollyoaks will be joining the cast as Colin Smallwood, a new character. With an astounding 2.1 million viewers on average for the first series, there’s a lot of excitement for the next episodes, which will also include a number of special guests.
“Claire’s taking a short break from Corrie to film,” the Corrie insider assured The Sun, adding that “it’s a matter of days and won’t affect anything on the cobbles.” The source further clarified that Claire’s brief leave won’t result in any drama on screen. There won’t be any interruptions on the screen since everything has been set up.
Express.co.uk has been informed by a representative that Claire took a little vacation over the weekend to shoot in Malta.
Claire gave an update on her future as Cassie in a recent interview with Cheshire Life. “I’m really happy to fully invest all my time and energy into Cassie and see what develops,” Claire added, referring to her recently signed one-year deal with Corrie.
“I couldn’t be happier about the acting scenes I have done recently in Coronation Street with Dame Maureen Lipman in the Rovers, and with Alan Halsall and Jennie McAlpine in the Dobbs household.”
“While my character was in the hospital, I worked on a fourteen-page sequence with Maureen when I first started working on Corrie. Meeting and working with such an incredible performer was an absolute dream. That episode’s script and direction were outstanding. That is undoubtedly one of my favourite moments.”
But Claire, 53, is enjoying more than just her work; on the set of ITV’s Dancing on Ice, she developed a romantic relationship with boxer Ricky Hatton.
Ricky may have been the first competitor eliminated, but he seemed to have gained something considerably more significant.
Following their ceremonial inauguration of the Co-Op Live venue in Manchester on the red carpet, Claire and Ricky took off for Tenerife, where they spent their first vacation together. They were seen having fun on date evenings and posing for pictures with admirers.
The two also enjoyed watching the Manchester City game at The Beach Cabin with friends.
The new pair is receiving a lot of support from fans, who have said things like “You look good together” and “You and Claire are the best match ever.” A second ecstatic fan said, “Oh, I just adore Claire Sweeney, such a cute couple.”
