Viewers are also not impressed by the recent return of one familiar face
Fans of CORONATION Street have expressed disbelief in the ITV soap opera executives due to the heightened emphasis on plots featuring younger, more recent characters.
Both the younger cast members and those who have been at Weatherfield for a long time have a lot of screen time in the soap opera.
The younger characters who are being introduced and the stories they are a part of, according to Corrie viewers, aren’t impressing them and don’t contribute anything to the soap opera.
The amount of screen time that Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu) and Lauren Bolton (Caitlin Fitton) have been receiving lately has particularly irked some fans.
After her romance with Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) ended two years ago, Alina left Weatherfield and has now returned.
After Tyrone moved away from Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine), Alina became pregnant with their kid. But in a horrifying turn of events, Fiz lost the child as a result of a fire started by her daughter.
Tyrone and Fiz resumed their romance in the years following Alina’s departure, and they got married at Christmas in 2022.
Now that Alina is back, all the drama is back, with Fiz facing her husband’s ex at the grocery store.
Lauren, meantime, has found herself at the focus of many suspenseful Weatherfield plots. Though everyone thought she had been killed, it came out that she had been hiding her pregnancy from Joel Deering (Calum Lill).
But soap opera viewers have considered the attention on these characters to be quite dull.
One fan complained that ITV executives aren’t coming up with compelling enough plots involving the younger characters to keep viewers interested as they discussed current Corrie stories on X, previously Twitter.
“Now that Alina is back, it’s much worse than it was before—with Lauren, Mason, Max, Bobby, and the awful Betsy. They wrote, “Does Corrie truly detest its viewers so much?
Another claimed that by bringing Alina back, the Corrie executives are wasting the time of the fans.
“She was much more useless this time than she was the last! They said, “I have nothing against the beautiful actress, but Alina is just too much,”
A third winced and said, “Imagine going into a story meeting and pitching the return of Alina Pop.”
An further observer said, “I still don’t care about Lauren.” I don’t want to spend all of my time around teenagers.
They also accused soap bosses of reigniting drama between Fiz and Alina for no reason.
“If I was Fiz, I would have said nothing and I wouldn’t have gone to look for boring Alina in the first place,” they wrote.
