Fans of Emmerdale will be aware that the Sugden family has been in the village for many years, but what is the relationship between Victoria and John Sugden, the recent arrival, and the famous family?
On Wednesday night, Emmerdale debuted a new character: 42-year-old actor Oliver Farnworth as John Sugden. His persona was revealed as Aaron Dingle’s new love interest when he made his serial debut on the hit ITV soap opera.
Instead of meeting up as planned, Aaron met John on the side of the road while his car was being repaired.
The two had a passionate kiss after Aaron had mended the car, which soon developed into a roadside tryst. But John quickly left the scene, grabbing Eric Pollard’s vehicle keys and Aaron’s belongings.
In the episode from Thursday night, Eric’s car broke down and he was unable to go to his old friend’s burial. When he got lost, Victoria Sugden graciously volunteered to drive him there.
But when they got to the church, Victoria unintentionally upset the distraught son at his mother’s burial. According to the Mirror, she was even more astonished to learn that his name is John Sugden.
Subsequently, Eric clumsily disclosed that John may be her father Jack Sugden’s son and her half-brother.
Unexpectedly, it was John who called Mackenzie Boyd regarding a breakdown that was happening nearby back in the hamlet. When John showed up at the town, Eric and Victoria were shocked to see him there, and soon there was drama.
How is John Sugden related to Victoria in Emmerdale?
The intricate Sugden family tree came to light on Thursday as actor Oliver made his Emmerdale debut in the role of John.
Jackie Merrick, Robert Sugden, Victoria Sugden, and adopted son Andy Sugden are the four children of the late Jack Sugden, who died away in 2009.
John is the newest member of the family; Jack and his mother Barbara had a previous relationship. Only Victoria is still in the village, but with John’s arrival, are there going to be any more Sugdens?
