During an interview on Lorraine, Oliver Farnworth, who portrays John Sugden on Emmerdale, spoke poignantly about his partner Samantha Womack’s struggle with breast cancer.

Actor Oliver Farnworth of Emmerdale provided an update on his partner Samantha Womack of EastEnders’ battle with breast cancer.

Christine Lampard enquired about Samantha Womack’s present state, with the utmost caution in treating such a delicate subject. Oliver, who is well-known for playing Andy Sugden on soap operas, expressed his appreciation for his fiancée, the former EastEnder, and her resilience during her treatment.

“She’s doing incredibly well,” Oliver reassured the stand-in host. “I’m in awe of her,” he said, blowing a soft kiss in respect to the camera. In order to encourage women to be vigilant about any anomalies in their breasts, Farnworth talked openly about Samantha’s diagnosis.

The story of this performing couple started in 2019 when they both appeared in London’s West End production of “The Girl On The Train.” This was the beginning of their romance. Since August 2022, Samantha has been bravely battling breast cancer, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Oliver expressed his support and gratitude, praising Samantha’s incredible “strength” and “determination” in overcoming life’s many demands during such a difficult time. He kissed the camera once more, this time to emphasise how he felt.

The Emmerdale actor revealed, “She’s been so kind of strong and determined through it,” describing his girlfriend’s amazing fortitude and willpower in the face of her cancer struggle. Defying the odds, she went to a regular doctor’s appointment and, since there had been no prior symptoms, she received her diagnosis by surprise.

Oliver said, “And we were very lucky because they detected quite a high grade of cancer and were able to deal with that quite quickly but she then went through the chemo and the radiation.” Oliver expressed gratitude for their early diagnosis.

He spoke of how she had moved residences, handled her final radio treatment session, and even managed to play in a popular West End production, ‘The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,’ all while undergoing intense therapy, and expressed admiration for her endurance.

Oliver, who was determined to spread knowledge about the illness, emphasised the need of routine examinations and asked women to be vigilant about any irregularities. He used the example of his girlfriend’s cancer being discovered during one of these routine health exams to emphasise his point.

Christine concluded by sharing details on the Lorraine campaign, Change and Check, which aims to raise awareness of cancer.
