Next week, Emmerdale will return to its rural beginnings as Mackenzie Boyd (played by Lawrence Robb) encounters a potentially fatal incident with a bull.
Mack had experienced a lot in the past year, including being stabbed by his wife Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and being in a dramatic vehicle accident that left him perched on a precipice.
More than I would want to recall. Lawrence said to us, “I honestly forget how many times I’ve been hurt.”
Yes, I was beaten up during the holidays. The variations that might result are always entertaining to shoot. “Keep it up,” he said in jest.
In later sequences, a bull unexpectedly blocks Mack’s path into Butler’s Farm while he is repairing a quadbike.
He swiftly charges the barn gate, setting himself up for what would turn into a lethal confrontation with the animal, only to find himself being pursued.
Lawrence clarified, saying, “The bull that we were working with was difficult to say the least, when I say difficult, I mean it was the most placid and least dangerous bull I think in the world.” Mack, on the other hand, finds himself in a terrible predicament.
It had to be made to sprint down an extremely small hallway, and it sauntered along. We weren’t able to get it to run, so I’m excited to see it. There will be several sporadic shots of the bull’s face, noises made by the bull, and me fleeing from it. There wasn’t really much we could do about it.
“He was just a big, giant teddy bear,” he went on. How carefree he seemed. “Oh, are we going? Okay, no problem. Come on, let’s do it. I had a great time working with it.
Fortunately, Jurell Carter’s character Nate Robinson is nearby and runs in to see him hurt and with the bull standing over him.
A previous incident with Oliver Farnworth’s character John Sugden (a novice) leads the two to believe that he is the one who opened the gate.
“Basically, Mack steals [John’s] van, and after learning about it, he becomes convinced that he has gotten revenge on him by letting the bull run wild.” Lawrence clarified.
“It causes carnage because Mack is upset that John is now working on the farm at this point.”
Later, when Danny Miller’s character Aaron Dingle confronts John about what transpired, emotion gets in the way.
In another scene, Charity attempts to get Mack to start planning their retaliation, but he becomes agitated and silent before passing out.
