Kim Tate (Claire King) in Emmerdale is one of the savviest characters in the soap opera and has plenty of adversaries in the village. She frequently gets into heated disputes with them.
She has been seen recently going toe-to-toe with Rose Jackson (Christine Tremarco), following Will’s (Dean Andrews) ex-wife’s attempt to unseat Kim from Home Farm. Additionally, there have been some tense interactions with Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly), whose taunts can be sharp and clever.
Though Kim is capable of taking just as many jabs as she does, you won’t hear the adjective “old” used against her.
Claire King stated to Woman’s Weekly that Emma Atkins, who co-stars with her as Charity Dingle, is adamant about ageism being avoided.
Claire commented, “She graciously removes all the “old” references from the scripts for me.” Emma eliminates the word “old” and exclaims, “I’m not having that” when Kim is called a “old witch.”
Claire said, “If you think about it, you wouldn’t have a reference to someone’s race or color or anything else, so she takes out the ageist comments and I think that’s great.” Claire is in perfect agreement with this.
At sixty-two years old, Claire, who first appeared on Emmerdale as a cast member, claimed that she doesn’t feel any different now—just a little bit creakier. When you reach sixty, that’s what you anticipate. I don’t think about my age; I’m enjoying life and have fewer doctor’s appointments than I had when I was 25.
She enjoys portraying Kim Tate so much, which contributes to this in part.
Though I may be a little prejudiced, I think she’s the finest TV character, so please accept my sincere gratitude. She possesses all the necessary balance. She is large, fearless, and has both a gentle and a hard side.
People think highly of Kim. In public, they’ll approach me and tell me, “I love you, you’re a great b***h.” Not your typical dialogues!
Fortunately for her supporters, Claire stated that she has no intention of retiring.
“Kim is still up there and I’m still enjoying her; she hasn’t become doddery yet,” the woman remarked.
On the contrary, Kim finds herself squarely at the center of the action, with Caleb Miligan (played by William Ash) attempting to demolish the woman he believes is responsible for his father’s passing by constructing an empire to match Kim’s.
However, there are problems closer to home. Rose Jackson vanished after Kim and Will dumped her in a distant place, and her possessions were discovered strewn down the side of the road. Given that they each have the ability to murder Rose, Will and Kim are wary of one another.
When Dawn (Olivia Bromley) revealed that her son Evan, who has leukemia, needed a bone marrow transplant and that Rose was among the family members who would need to be tested in the hopes of finding a match, the hunt for Rose became even more urgent.
On Friday, August 23, the show revealed a shocking twist: Dawn had made up the bone marrow transplant narrative, and when her plan came to pass, Will “wouldn’t know what hit him.”
We’re going to find out what happened to Rose Jackson, but will Will or Kim fall from grace as a result of the major revelation?
