Fans of Emmerdale have supported Lisa Riley’s opinions after she vented on social media on Monday. The 48-year-old Mandy Dingle actress had been watching the first episode of Good Morning Britain on ITV this week.

Guests joined hosts Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins on the program as they talked about supermarket self-checkouts. The debate about whether or not they are beneficial has arisen in response to some major UK shops announcing that they want to reduce the number of self-service tills.

A poll was also posted on X by the official GMB account, asking viewers to respond to the following: “Some supermarkets are planning to reduce the number of self checkouts. Asda and Morrisons are bringing back checkout workers, while Booths has completely eliminated them. Should the other stores give up on self checkouts and do the same?

Lisa also went to X in response to the argument, saying, “I really detest self checkout tills; I would much rather stand behind a line of nine full trolleys than use one. @GMB It promotes jobs! I don’t want a staff worker to demonstrate the self-service from behind my shoulder. Let’s talk and head to the standard until.”

Following the Emmerdale star’s post, fans reacted quickly, with Sandra writing: “100% Lisa. I work in retail, and whether we are busy or not, I prefer to have a good conversation with the many senior people who come in. They enjoy it, and it’s the proper thing to do.

“I agree,” Serena remarked. “This might be the only face-to-face conversation some people have in a day,” David said, adding, “I have been saying exactly this for ages.”
