Emmerdale star Dean Andrews has been a regular on the soap for three years
Dean Andrews of Emmerdale startled fans with a 1986 throwback picture that showed off his mullet. In the old photo, the actor—who has been playing Will Taylor since April 2019—was seen having fun at a vacation camp. “What an impressive mullet you have there,” said one admirer on the photo.
For more than twenty years, Dean Andrews captivated audiences with his vocal abilities before appearing on Emmerdale as Will Taylor. Dean, who goes by “Deano” and was born in Rotherham, Yorkshire, on August 6, 1963, made his acting debut in Ken Loach’s film The Navigators in 2001.
Dean had earlier been in EastEnders in 2002 as Dean, before moving to the Dales. He later returned for the TV special EastEnders: Ricky and Bianca in the same year.
According to the Daily Star, Dean’s career flourished with parts in prominent TV shows like Casualty, Shameless, The Street, Clocking Off (2003), and Silent Witness. According to OK!, he also won over audiences with his performances as Robbie in Halifax’s Last Tango from 2012 to 2016 and as Pete Lewis in Being Eileen in 2013.
However, the role that many people find most unforgettable is perhaps his depiction of DS Ray Carling in the BBC popular series Life on Mars, in which he starred opposite Keeley Hawes and John Simm from 2006 to 2007 and then in the sequel Ashes to Ashes from 2008 to 2010.
Throughout the third season of Ashes to Ashes, Dean sang a lighthearted rendition of Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl behind the scenes with co-stars Philip Glennister and Marshall Lancaster. Dean regularly provides snippets of his time with the casts of both shows.
Another image shows Dean with co-star Monseratt Lambard and 80s Spandau Ballet star Tony Hadley on the Ashes to Ashes set. In another scene, Andrews and fellow actor Marshall Lancaster are dressed as Superman and James Bond for a costume party in one of the show’s plots.
Actor Dean was not always in demand. He sung in bars and on cruise liners for twenty years. On Instagram, he once shared a throwback 1986 album cover from his singing days, when he was seen wearing a tan leather jacket and black pants. The album was named You to Me are Everything.
Away from the screen, Dean is an avid supporter of Rotherham football and took part in a fundraiser for the Rotherham Hospice in 2022. The man who values family is contentedly wed to Helen Bowen-Green, resides with their two kids, and received their granddaughter Ida-Rae in August of 2022.
