Coronation Street’s Leanne in danger as star warns ‘there’s trouble ahead’

The ITV soap opera Coronation Street’s Leanne Battersby’s Institute plotline is taking a dark turn, as Jane Danson has hinted that ‘the cracks are starting to reveal’.

The Coronation Street character Jane Danson, who portrays Leanne Battersby, has alluded to ‘trouble coming’ as Rowan Cuncliffe’s (Emmys Cooper) fall from grace unfolds in the ITV soap opera.

As viewers are aware, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) has been the target of Leanne and her mentor’s attempts to get her to join The Institute and give up her wealth.

On Monday, August 26, the show’s viewers watched Leanne go looking for Rowan, who told her that following an upload session, Amy was thinking twice about investing in the resource centre. Rowan then urged Leanne to persuade her partner Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) to follow suit.

Leanne urged Amy to face her previous traumas in order to get rid of negativity throughout her upload. Leanne was shocked to learn that Rowan was taping Amy’s admission, though.

When Amy told her grandpa Ken Barlow that she intended to talk to him about releasing her fortune for investment, he expressed his dissatisfaction.

Drama breaks out later this week as Leanne says Amy is ready for her malware session. Amy, who is wearing a blindfold, is horrified by the members’ abuse of her, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Leanne assures Amy that it will all be worthwhile, but Amy gets too sad and leaves the area.

Nick and Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) will confront Rowan at the Chariot Square Hotel in future scenes with the intention of exposing him. It’s evident from Tracy that they want to submit their narrative to the Gazette.

Leanne is left feeling conflicted as Rowan implores her to persuade Amy to stop her attack, pointing out that as senior management, her allegiance to the Institute should take precedence over her friendship with Amy.

The tension on next week’s Corrie is expected to be high, as spoilers indicate Leanne offers Amy a position back at the Bistro and begs her to think again before suing The Institute. Will Amy give in, though?

When asked about the scenes to come, the soap actress replied: “The cracks are starting to appear, Leanne’s still got this self-belief that the institute is good for her, it’s making her happy, however the malware session, which she found quite difficult, felt worse for Amy when was actually looking in on it.”

It was difficult to watch Amy fall apart and realise that she is little more susceptible than Leanne had thought. Leanne recognises there is some truth to Rowan’s statement that she emotionally rushed Amy to the point where it’s all her responsibility since she skipped certain steps in order to get there, but Leanne’s trip took longer and involved more coercion.”

“At this point, she realises that perhaps it wasn’t the best decision for Amy, but let’s look on the bright side and concentrate on the Resource Centre and how it would actually benefit others. Leanne sees it this way: Amy felt great and didn’t allow others the chance to put her back together the way they did, so she’s holding onto that even if she may be harbouring misgivings in her heart.”

Jane went on, “We start to see everything falling down around her,” in response to the question of whether Leanne would feel bad about bringing Amy to the Institute. Her connection with Rowan has not been the same as it was, and her friendship with Nick has grown quite tense. She’s responding to him differently than she has in the past, and he’s not nearly being as kind to her as he has been.”

“She continues to cling to the idea that the institution is beneficial, but she feels deep down that something is a little odd. Since Amy is a young, delicate child and is related to Leanne through Oliver’s family, she feels an extra degree of security. This feels weird because Amy is Oliver’s sister. There are several facets to it.”

Fans of Corrie will have to wait to see what happens and whether Leanne eventually sees Rowan for who he really is. When asked if Leanne would start to doubt anything soon, particularly if Rowan is discovered, Jane said, “I genuinely don’t know.”

“There’s turmoil ahead, for sure. You can’t go through all that and then expect everything to turn out OK. She must have some wounds left from her experiences.”
