Coronation Street’s Andy Whyment responds to soap exit concerns as he’s seen in completely new role

The actor is famed for playing Kirk Sutherland in the ITV soap

Andy Whyment, a star of Coronation Street, has addressed remarks made over his future on the show following his appearance in a totally different character.

Fans of the actor, as well as his cobbles co-stars, will know that he enjoys picking up the mic. Andy, who is well-known for playing Kirk Sutherland in the ITV soap opera, is frequently spotted directing a sing-along at Corrie’s annual celebrations.

But this time, he took his singing talents off the famous Weatherfield streets and sang the smash song “Sex on Fire” by Kings of Leon with the band Organised Mayhem at a nearby festival.

“Had a top day at Punch Fest, and it was a privilege to get up and do a song with @organised.mayhem1, who I think are a very talented band especially as they are only 14 years old!” Andy posted on Instagram with a video of his performance.

Tony Maudsley, George Shuttleworth’s co-star in Corrie, reacted quickly, saying, “You little ROCK STAR!!!” LOVE IT!!!!” In response, former soap opera actress Brooke Vincent, who portrayed Sophie Webster in Weatherfield, said, “I love watching you sing.”

Many of Andy’s admirers and fans were eager to respond to the video. One asked, “Think Oasis have just found there support act,” in reference to the recent news of Liam and Noel Gallagher calling off their 15-year feud. The soap star answered, “Absolutely buzzing Oasis are getting back together.”

Andy responded to a fan who stated, “Leaving Corrie to pursue a music career are we now,” with the following: “Absolutely not Corrie my number 1 but enjoying singing the odd song here and there.”

In reaction to the image, one fan added, though: “To think Kirk and Tyrone fought for Fizz’s love.” Although Tyrone won the girl, Kirk is succeeding in life.” Andy said that “Kirk’s always been unlucky in love, I’m blessed in real life though and feel very lucky and grateful.”
