Coronation Street: Beth’s exit storyline is awful, fans blast

Beth and Kit serious Coronation Street

As the ITV soap opera established an exit story for long-time fan favourite Beth Tinker, fans of Coronation Street have taken aim at the show. Since August 5, 2011, the seamstress has been visible on the cobbles. However, she lately encountered difficulties as a result of officer Kit’s blackmailing her.

Before learning that Kit was involved, Beth had been working with her business partner Sid on selling knockoff T-shirts. Later, Kit said that if Craig didn’t back off, she would destroy his career.

Angry viewers have criticised the show’s creators over Beth’s impending departure, saying she should have a more satisfying arc.

Coronation Street: Why is Kit targeting Beth?

Beth worked at Carla’s factory, covertly producing knockoff clothes throughout that period. Sid, her accomplice in crime, drove them to the station so they could flog for a profit.

Everything was going well for their proposal until Betsy, the daughter of DS Swain, joined the Underworld team in order to gain some job experience, and Beth became rumbled. After that, Betsy and Izzy joined Beth in her plots, but Carla caught them.

After being let off from her position, Beth learnt Sid was still selling their goods and hadn’t paid her.

As Beth descended, she saw Kit there, chatting with Sid and participating in their endeavour.

Kit became anxious when he realised Beth knew about his plan, fearing she might tell the authorities. In order to get her to leave Weatherfield, he chose to threaten her.

To terrify her even further, Kit threatened to destroy Craig’s career if she stayed. Beth’s illegal activities had caused Craig to distance himself from her, and he had only just forgiven her.

On Wednesday’s (August 28) episode, Kirk made a proposal to Beth when she was faced with a choice. Beth declined and gave her reason for working at the Norfolk plant.

She decided not to let Kirk follow her and to leave Weatherfield the following day, sharing farewell drinks with several of the plant workers.

Fans are furious

Fans are displeased with Beth’s departure queue and feel she should have received considerably more, regardless of her choice.

“It can’t be the end of Beth and Kirk,” said one X user, along with many sobbing and broken-heart emojis. “It’s unbelievable that this is our Beth and Kirky’s last,” said another.

“I’ve never been a big fan of Beth, but this exit doesn’t sit right with me,” remarked a third.

“The fact Beth’s exit was so well written and now they’re just shoving her off within the space of an episode,” said a fourth irate viewer.

One last commenter said, “This Beth leaving feels SO hurried. It’s terrible.
