Fans of the long-running ITV soap drama Coronation Street are perplexed because they think Ken Barlow has been “replaced” at a significant plot point.
Many who watch Coronation Street are certain that Ken Barlow has been “replaced” on the venerable ITV soap opera. William Roache’s portrayal of the fabled Ken has graced the cobbles from the first day of 1960.
With more than six decades of screen time under his belt, the actor is almost TV royalty, and his character Ken was recently embroiled in a hot subplot. Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney), Ken’s granddaughter, became entangled in a dubious cult known as The Institute as a result of Leanne Battersby’s (Jane Danson) foolish assistance.
Cult leader Leanne was tricked by Emrhys Cooper’s character Rowan Cunliffe into letting him take advantage of her vulnerabilities. Amy was then drawn in, believing that Rowan would help her resolve her own problems. Amy stole her inheritance from gran Deirdre in Wednesday’s dramatic episode (August 28), only to deposit it into The Institute’s bank account.
But Amy pulled a one-eighty and wanted her £40k back after going through a nightmarish ritual in which a throng yelled her greatest fears at her.
Leanne told her that everything was OK, but a little while later, she revealed that the money had been transferred to a “parent company” and that it would be extremely difficult to get back.
Unaware of the cash transaction, Amy’s father Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) threatened to call the police to retrieve the stolen goods, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Following Corrie’s most recent shocking episode on ITV, the show’s executives sent a footage on the official Corrie Instagram account. simply captioned “Amy, poor Amy. The crowd quickly voiced their thoughts in response to the question, “What has she done? “.
Many people were furious with Leanne, some felt sorry for Amy, and still others couldn’t understand why Ken would distribute Amy’s money so quickly.
A supporter remarked, “Ken would not have been duped like that,” while another added, “Ken ought to have at least told her not to invest her whole £40K.” It was a horrible idea for her to jeopardise all of her funds, even if the firm was legitimate.”
“Why have they replaced Ken with an unintelligent fool?” yelled one Corrie fan, while another said, “I can’t believe Ken fell for that rubbish.”
