Paul moved by emotional milestone in Coronation Street as the reality of his death draws close

A wonderful surprise (Picture: ITV)

This coming week on Coronation Street is back to school, which allows Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) a chance to reflect once more on what he will miss out on while he isn’t around.

Motor neurone illness affects Paul. Since his diagnosis last year, we have watched the Paul we have known and loved for a very long time gradually deteriorate due to a disease that will eventually claim his life.

Paul was informed during a recent checkup that his weak bones prevent him from using the stair lift any more. Unfortunately, Paul is stuck inside his house until he and Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) find an apartment without stairs.

Billy assured Paul they could do anything he wanted on their final excursion out before all of this happened.

Paul and Billy spent the day visiting the church where they were married before meeting up with pals for drinks at the Rovers.

When Paul found it difficult to communicate, Billy was there to translate for him, which made Paul happy, but it quickly became apparent that Billy wasn’t understanding all Paul was saying.

They also went to see Summer (Harriet Bibby), who was leaving for a night out, at the Winter/Brown residence.

Paul is ecstatic this next week when Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) shows up with Joseph (William Flanagan) and the quads, who are prepared for their first day of school, because he is stranded at the apartment.

Billy snaps some group photos of them to commemorate the event. A touching moment that serves as a reminder that Paul won’t be around for very long to see his nieces and nephews grow up.

Paul starts recording a manifesto the next week, listing all the things he wants Billy to accomplish after he passes away. Unfortunately, as soon as he tries to play it for Billy and Summer, the synthesiser dies.

Assuming control, Summer instructs Billy to get outside and get some fresh air while she makes arrangements.

Can Summer assist Paul now that Billy is gone?
