Fans of the ITV soap opera are aware that Billy Mayhew just lost Paul Foreman, his spouse.
Daniel Brocklebank, a cast member of Coronation Street, has humorously hinted at a brand-new romantic relationship following a tragic passing on the popular program. Fans of the ITV soap opera are aware that Billy Mayhew lost his spouse Paul Foreman not too long ago.
After receiving the life-limiting diagnosis in April 2023—for which there is presently no treatment—former builder Paul, played by Peter Ash, and his loved ones watched as his health declined before their own eyes, from speech loss to limb loss.
However, Paul’s condition suddenly deteriorated in the most recent scenes, and he was taken to the hospital while having trouble breathing. Paul later breathed his last when medical professionals told his family there was nothing more they could do to keep him comfortable.
However, in a tragic turn of events, Billy was unable to say farewell since his attempts to get there were hampered by his search for his misplaced phone. Though, in actuality, Paul had already sadly died away, he did believe he had the opportunity to express his feelings to Paul over the phone.
While Summer Spellman and Gemma Winter-Brown wept and turned witnesses to Bernie’s deception, it was Bernie who pushed Billy to speak up and take responsibility for his words.
Billy came later and was devastated to witness a doctor confirming Paul’s death before storming into the room and embracing his spouse for the final time.
Daniel made the following statement to the Manchester Evening News and other media following the scenes’ broadcast: “As actors, we’ve been working towards this moment for eighteen months, so when we finally got that last block in, it was like, ‘Oh my God, we’re here!'”
“When the narrative was originally offered to us, it felt so far ahead of time that it was terrifying for us as characters. However, for us as performers, we pretty much shot everything in chronological order, so Pete’s last moment was when Billy shows up and clings onto Paul, who has already gone away.
We were aware that Pete would be departing at that same moment, and while Billy, Gemma, Bernie, and Summer are mourning Paul, we are mourning Pete, our buddy. It’s ridiculous to lose someone you love working with every day. Thus, it was terrifying on two fronts.”
“I’d really like some comedy that would be nice… Billy and old women, that would work well!” Daniel also shared his thoughts for Billy’s future in 2025. Like a reading club, knitting group, or perhaps a choir? However, I believe Billy and Sally Metcalfe would make a hilarious duo.
“But yeah, a little bit of comedy next year would be nice.” Daniel replied with a cheeky “Maybe, yeah…” to a question concerning the potential for a new romantic relationship. It would be a reach to bring in a 27-year-old Spanish window cleaner like me, but I would give it my all.”
Regarding the possibility of his character deviating from the path once more, Daniel responded, “Hopefully not to the same extent… He did deviate from the path a little, but fortunately not to the point where he ended up killing himself in a church aisle as we previously seen. If it’s not his situation, Billy is excellent in a crisis.”
As he went on, Daniel revealed that he is missing his on-screen companion and is finding it odd. Pete and I don’t get to eat breakfast together every morning and laugh all day long. Pete and I used to spend a few hours sitting down together after work to go over everything that needed to be done the next day. That’s all the tiny things I used to do every day but can no longer do.”
