In recent events on Coronation Street, Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) has had a terrible loss due to the passing of his spouse, Paul Foreman (Peter Ash).
But when he finds out that Living Aids, the firm that supplied Paul with his wheelchair and synthesiser, wants to pick them up, his suffering is only going to get worse.
Billy is in a panic since he hasn’t yet downloaded Paul’s voice recordings, which he really wants to save in order to honour his beloved.
Can he download it all in a timely manner?
Later, Billy receives a visit from Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), informing him that Paul’s body is at the undertakers and that he is welcome to come and spend some time with him.
Billy’s experiences organising Paul’s funeral only go worse as he starts to argue with Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) regarding the service.
Actor Daniel Brocklebank told Metro.co.uk, “They are obviously quite different in their approach to life and subsequently death as well.”
Both of them believe they have the upper hand in mourning since they are the mother and the husband, respectively, even though they are both grieving over someone they love.
Billy is rather conventional. Billy wants pop tunes, Bernie wants hymns, and the funeral is soon. Billy also wants a hearse, while Bernie wants something else. Over the next weeks, there will be war.
Bernie opposes Billy’s plan to perform a religious service for Paul, who was christened last year, despite Billy’s position as archdeacon.
“There’s a lot of conflict between his belief that Paul ought to be buried in a Christian cemetery and her refusal to have one!” How? Jane Hazlegrove clarified.
Maybe she would want to do something more Pagan. A confrontation and a lock of horns are anticipated.
