ITV Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle star Jeff Hordley’s unrecognisable Coronation Street role

Star of Emmerdale for almost 20 years, Jeff Hordley was also involved in Coronation Street. He portrayed Cain Dingle in the ITV soap opera.

Fans of Emmerdale were left stunned when an old photo of Jeff Hordley from Coronation Street appeared online. Jeff, well known for his many years as Cain Dingle in ITV’s Emmerdale since 2000, actually appeared in two episodes of Corrie before relocating to the hamlet in May 1997 as a nightclub manager and then again in November 1998 as a character named Wayne.

Among fans of soap operas who were unaware of Jeff’s stint on the cobbles, the disclosed photo from his 1997 debut has been making the rounds on Reddit.

The photo, which features a teenage Jeff with Johnny Briggs’s character Mike Baldwin and is taken against the nightclub’s office wall, has Jeff wearing a grey turtleneck and jacket.

Startled admirers posted their opinions on Reddit. As one user put it: “Well, that’s new to me! At the time, I wasn’t watching Emmerdale or Corrie. That picture of Jeff Hordley is excellent.”

“I was watching Corrie then, but I have no recollection at all that JH was in it,” said a second, perplexed.

Another admirer said, “Cain Dingle from Emmerdale,” while a third noted how little he had changed. Before he joined Emmerdale, this was probably in the middle or late 1990s. He was also a music instructor.”

Jeff hasn’t been with Emmerdale for the whole time; he joined in 2000, left to pursue other chances six years later, and then came back in 2009. According to the Mirror, he has been a familiar figure in the drama set in Yorkshire ever since.

Cain has played a central role in a number of significant plots throughout the years, especially because the Dingles are always entangled in the drama in the hamlet. His stories include discovering that he is Debbie’s father, that his “uncle” Zak is actually his father, about his connection with his cousin Charity Dingle, and about being attacked in a whodunit storyline twist.

The focus of the soap opera right now is Cain’s marriage to Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb), despite their difficult relationship. For weeks, Moira has been acting strangely, which has worried Cain but also made him more and more angry since she hasn’t sought medical attention.

Since then, Moira has learnt that her peculiar conduct and convulsions are being caused by a brain tumour. It was discovered by the doctors to be inside her skull, close to the left temporal lobe, and that removal would need surgery.

She was told that the sort of tumour in question was probably not cancerous and that it was usually non-malignant.
