Gillian Jephcott, a newcomer to Coronation Street, may be known to fans of the soap opera for her time spent in Emmerdale two decades prior.
Last week, Jephcott made her debut on the cobbles as Caitlin, the child protection officer in charge of looking into the safety of Joseph, the son of Chesney Brown, at his residence.
Following Joseph’s accidental lavender oil poisoning by his stepmother, Gemma Winter-Brown, Caitlin was forced to launch the required investigation.
But Gillian Jephcott’s stint on Corrie is by no means her first in the soap opera industry. She was, in fact, the original Emmerdale Faith Dingle actress.
As the mother of Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), her portrayal of Faith initially arrived in the Dales in 2000. She continued to make guest appearances until 2004.
When Faith was given a full-time slot on the ITV1 soap opera in 2017, the role was eventually recast, with Sally Dexter taking over for what has turned into the character’s definitive portrayal.
Faith played by Dexter was featured in many high-profile plots until a poignant one culminated in her death from cancer last year.
Regarding Gillian Jephcott, she has a lengthy and remarkable resume that includes roles in Brassic, Cutting It, and Clocking Off.
Her character Caitlin recently caught Gemma breaking a directive not to be left alone with Joseph during the CPS investigation, so scenes involving her current stint on Coronation Street could be heartbreaking.
With a falsehood that Gemma was only left alone with Joseph for a short while, Chesney was able to appease Caitlin; however, the child protection officer forewarned the couple that if they committed another infraction, they would lose their children.
