Ever since Todd Boyce’s (Stephen Reid) death, Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) in Coronation Street has been going through a terrible period.
Peter can’t seem to get over the fact that he was the one who ran Stephen over with his automobile. This has caused a significant strain in their marriage, along with Carla’s (Alison King) problems in the workplace.
In later scenes, Peter gets a letter from the hospital, but he quickly tucks it into his pocket so Carla won’t know what’s inside.
Afterwards, he confides in coworker Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) that he is unable to stop thinking about Stephen’s passing.
Tim asks Peter to join him in the hot tub at No. 4 in an attempt to lift his spirits. Peter believes it is easier said than done, but Tim advises Peter to try and concentrate on the good things in his life.
Tim encourages him to keep going when he confides in him that he is worried that his relationship with Carla is waning because of how focused on the factory these days.
Things start to go better that evening when Carla gets home with a date night meal for two and they decide to watch a movie together.
But catastrophe occurs when Carla answers a call about the factory alarm going off and heads out to fix things.
After telling Carla he was too busy to have lunch with her, Peter tells her he is cleaning the house the next day, which upsets Carla.
At that point, he at last opens up and says he has made plans to meet his liver donor’s mother, who is on her way any moment.
After Carla swears to support him through it all, Peter tells Valerie that her son saved his life and that he is an alcoholic. What will she say?
