In Coronation Street, Stu Carpenter (Bill Fellows) has always sought to provide the best for his granddaughter Eliza (Savannah Kunyo). It’s been difficult for him to see Eliza’s father, Dom (Darren Morfitt), let her down time and time again.
Stu is aware of Eliza’s strong desire for a connection with her father, but Dom has repeatedly let her down.
After Eliza showed up to Stu’s home with a black eye, Stu even got in touch with social services, but Eliza swore it was from her Taekwondo lesson, so social services were convinced that Dom was a suitable father.
Even so, Stu remained skeptical and engaged the services of a private detective, who ultimately revealed the startling revelation that Dom had a prior driving conviction in Germany for reckless driving while his fiancée and kid were in the vehicle.
This seemed to be the proof Stu was searching for, showing Dom was an unsuitable father and unable to take care of Eliza.
He questions Dom about what transpired in Germany in future episodes before making him an offer. Stu offers Dom £10,000 in exchange for Dom staying out of Eliza’s life indefinitely.
Eliza is disappointed when Dom doesn’t show up throughout the Christmas season since she thought she would be spending the holiday with him.
Stu calls Dom to let him know that he has changed his mind after seeing how distressed his granddaughter Eliza is, fearing that he may have made a mistake.
Another person who suffers greatly as a result of Stu’s actions is Yasmeen (Shelley King). Given her past traumatic and violent relationship with the villainous Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew), Yasmeen’s reluctance to trust and open herself up to Stu was understandable.
She values honesty and integrity, so you can imagine how shocked she is when Stu tells her that he paid Dom to keep him away from Eliza.
Yasmeen confides in Roy, played by David Neilson, stating that she has seemingly fallen for a guy who lies to her once again.
Stu says he feels he should tell Eliza the truth about what occurred, but Yasmeen tells him not to, even though she is heartbroken and furious over his falsehoods. She claims that he is Eliza’s sole surviving family member and that she would be devastated to learn the truth.
Will Stu manage to put Eliza’s feelings right? And will he be able to patch up his broken relationship with Yasmeen?
