Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley) appears to be moving up the list of Albert Square’s “public enemy number one” with every day that goes by. This has been a topic of much conversation on EastEnders lately.

Rocky’s gambling addiction hasn’t helped his financial situation; ever since ex-wife Jo (Vicki Michelle) showed up and demanded a £50,000 payment in exchange for her quiet on his bigamy, he has been in financial trouble.

Rocky’s issues escalated after he turned to loan shark Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry), realizing he couldn’t afford the repayments and being forced to take drastic steps as the interest accumulated.

His strategy was straightforward: Set fire to Gillian Taylforth’s character Kathy Beale’s café and demand a reimbursement from the insurance.

He wasn’t prepared for Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell) to become stuck inside the structure and for Peter Beale (Thomas Law) to suffer life-threatening injuries while attempting to save his brother.

Rocky was forced to speak with the police after Kathy was taken into custody for lighting the fire, but he continued to withhold information.

Rocky told the police, not the truth, that he had tried to fix the electrics and had inadvertently caused the fire. Rocky was unfortunate in that this rendered the insurance claim void, leaving him in a worse situation than when he had begun.

When wife Kathy finally learned the truth after being kept in the dark for weeks, it’s safe to say that she lost it.

Broken-hearted and deceived, she gave Rocky the command to permanently leave her life.

Rocky had nowhere to sleep as a result, but fortunately Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) didn’t want to see him suffer through the night.

She expressed her anger at Rocky’s actions to Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) during breakfast the following morning, declaring that she didn’t want to eat with a “filthy arsonist.”

Will Rocky ever win back his family’s trust after turning them against him, or was this one lie too many?
