Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) is keen to spend his last day with his true love, Carla Connor (Alison King), as he prepares to leave Coronation Street.
Since murdering Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce), Peter has had mental health issues.
Peter has experienced the need to use alcohol as a means of numbing his feelings after the police decided not to press charges against him.
Chris, who has been Peter for 23 years, was seen recording the aforementioned sequences in October. Based on what’s been seen so far, viewers should prepare for an intense emotional rollercoaster.
The main subject of the Boxing Day programme will be Carla and Peter’s time spent together in Weatherfield. The couple realises they are better off apart as they reflect on their past experiences and enjoy their final dinner together.
In Tuesday’s episode, a wounded Carla finds it difficult to cope with Peter’s impending departure, which results in a passionate hug.
In the episode, Peter bids a tearful goodbye to Ken Barlow (played by William Roache), vows to stay in contact, and then leaves Coronation Street.
The focus then shifts to Carla, who is briefly left alone until her friends and relatives start to worry about how she will manage without Peter.
A Coronation Street representative acknowledged that the door is “left open,” and actor Chris said that Peter Barlow “is very close to his heart” when he announced his soap leave.
Chris hasn’t given a specific comeback date, but it’s thought to be a long sabbatical.
The actor has played a major role in many major stories over the years, such as his recurrent alcoholism, his difficulties raising Simon Barlow, his on-again, off-again conflict with father Ken, and his stormy but intense romance with Carla.
