Christmas in soap opera land was, to put it mildly, explosive, but if you’re thinking that things will settle down now, you’re going to be shocked by how busy the characters in our individual serials are going to be in 2024!
EastEnders’ Albert Square was rocked by the events of the holiday season, but the New Year will bring even more drama, beginning with not one, but two enormous returns.
Believe me when I tell you that this is only the beginning.
Meanwhile, two familiar figures return to Coronation Street: Bethany Platt and Damon Hay. Both have unresolved business on the cobbles.
Heartbreak and shock abound in Emmerdale, where the people of the village of the same name have an especially dramatic New Year’s; in Hollyoaks, the narrative of Rafe Harcourt and Sienna Blake continues to take unexpected turns.
Here’s your first peek at what’s in store for 2024 in the soap industry. If the first week is any indication, it will be one not to be missed.
EastEnders
After seeing each other in Paris, Lauren and Penny Branning decide to go back to Walford following the events of that particular evening. When Penny returns to London, she heads to the Square, but where is Lauren exactly?
To Elaine’s dismay, George is approached by Cindy, who inquires as to if he’s satisfied with his life decisions. However, before he can respond, he is unexpectedly visited by Eddie and Gloria, his parents.
Elaine is concerned about his response. Later, George confesses to Cindy that he was adopted, but Gloria reveals something startling that upends the pub landlord’s entire world.
When Zack and Whitney inform Ashton that he would be attending a new foster family, they are struck with shock. Zack drowns his sorrows, while Whitney finds it difficult to cope.
Whitney visits Peach’s tree later in the week, and while there, she has a heart-to-heart with Yolande that prompts her to make a significant decision.
Coronation Street
Daisy feels hopeful that Daniel wants to try again when he tells her that he’d like to talk. But after that, Daniel gets thrown when he sees Bethany on the cobbles. Jenny, on the other hand, begs Daisy to track down Daniel and put things right, but what exactly will Daisy discover when she does so?
Equipped with alcohol, Jenny, Daisy, Sean, Glenda, and Gemma make their way to the Rovers. With Gary putting Betty’s portrait back where it belongs, the locals help get the Rovers back up and running for its grand reopening.
When Paul’s voice-talking device arrives, he plays back some of his recorded lines using the app with trepidation. Billy investigates the expense of the couple’s vacation and finds that the travel insurance is outrageous; Paul, however, is adamant that they disregard the entire matter.
Later, David assists Paul on his way home, but Paul forces David to return because Moses is about to arrive any moment. But Moses is running late, so as he rushes to the toilet, Paul stumbles and falls on the ground while trying to get to the wheelchair.
Emmerdale
At last, Rhona tells Marlon the truth about how connected she has become to baby Ivy and begs him to figure out a way to make this work. Will Marlon be able to do so is the question.
Gabby decides to put Jacob straight because she starts to worry that he has feelings for her. But as soon as she does, she finds out that he’s actually seeing Victoria!
Victoria and Jacob set up a meeting with Eric and Leyla in order to confront their loved ones with the truth. How will everyone respond to their big news is the question.
To break the exciting news that she and Tom are engaged, Belle gathers her loved ones. Feeling overwhelmed, Mandy examines the ring. But Belle is shocked to learn that Tom has already made the announcement online.
Hollyoaks
Rafe tells Dilly that he isn’t sure he should use his remaining time to defeat Sienna. When Dilly finds out that her husband has given Sienna a meaningful bracelet, she gets envious and ruins the jewellery.
Vicky tells Leah that she is unsure whether to trust him, which upsets Andre. However, photos show that all works out well, with the newcomer hugging his sister Vicky and friend Dillon.
When things turn out well, don’t you just adore it? I know, a rare in soap opera land!
When Prince’s cellmate threatens him, he becomes terrified. Hunter begs his brother not to give up and promises to get him out when he visits and learns about the difficult time he’s having. Prince is forced to take on the role of his new watchman by his cellmate.
