Coronation Street viewers think they have figured out a shock affair twist after the ITV soap’s boss teased a ‘big’ storyline in 2024
Following the CEO of the ITV soap opera Coronation Street’s hint of a “big” plot in 2024, fans of the show are certain they’ve spoiled an impending shocking surprise.
In the episode set on Christmas Day, Tracy Barlow was overwhelmed with stress when she discovered that she would be cooking for a larger number of family members than she had originally anticipated. When Ken Barlow insisted that the meal would not include alcohol, Tracy ran away to the flower shop, where she ultimately drank a bottle of wine that Mary had given her.
But no sooner had Tracy entered the store than she was interrupted by Tommy Orpington, who had an urgent present to buy. Tommy finally gave in after forcing him to pay through the roof for a plant, but only on the condition that Tracy would hire him again for decorating. The fictitious football player Tommy, who has been on the cobbles several times over the years, will be familiar to viewers. He is back for a lengthier narrative after a string of unsuccessful ventures and the divorce of his wife.
This is in line with what Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod hinted at earlier this year: ‘Notably, he is now single. He’s now forced to return to the job he had when he was a non-league player, which is painter and decorator. Not using a euphemism, but maybe one of our female characters might need some decoration.
“There’s basically a story that evolves where this attractive, successful historically man arrives into one of our female character’s life and upsets the apple cart in fairly spectacular fashion, shall we say?”
“It’s very funny but potentially quite sad in certain places,” Iain said. Tommy Orpington will ultimately come off the substitute bench because it sets off something extremely significant for us over the course of the following 12 months, including a major change of direction for certain characters.”
Fans of the soap opera Tracy and Tommy are certain that an affair plot is in the works, as shown by their arguments with husband Steve McDonald on Christmas Day. These fans have taken to Twitter and, more recently, X. Someone said, “Tony and Tracy Orpington! This seems to be the beginning of something, then. “First look at Tommy Orpington back on the cobbles look like an affair storyline for ar Tracy Barlow #Corrie,” one user said, using eye emojis. Another added, “Wonder if Tommy Orpington and Tracy will get together?”
