Kym Marsh, a broadcaster on BBC Morning Live and star of Waterloo Road, lost his father, David Marsh, recently.
According to a representative for the actress, he lost his fight with prostate cancer on Friday, January 12.
Since disclosing her father’s prostate cancer diagnosis in 2021, Kym, 47, a former Coronation Street actress and vocalist of Hear’Say, has discussed the illness in public on many occasions.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm David Marsh’s passing,” a statement said.
David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many. He died quietly at home on Friday night in the company of his loved ones.
‘We are truly heartbroken and ask for privacy at this incredibly difficult time,’ it concluded to the PA news agency.
Kym takes a long sabbatical from hosting the BBC programme Morning Live in 2021.
She stated that she had been suffering from anxiety episodes and was seeking therapy for her mental health throughout her father’s prostate cancer diagnosis earlier that year.
Later, while he continued to get treatment for an advanced version of the ailment, her father made an appearance on the show during Men’s Health Week to encourage men to not hesitate to seek prostate screenings.
She made an appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in 2022, and when she was voted off the BBC show as the tenth celebrity, she talked about trying to bring happiness to her hospitalised father.
In November 2023, her parents appeared again on the programme to provide an update.
At the time, Kym said they were living ‘day by day’ as her father’s cancer had spread into his bones.
Then, in December of last year, Kym once more resigned from her Morning Live anchoring position citing a “stress-related” illness.
Co-host Gethin Jones gave an explanation for her absence, saying, “You’ve got me and Rav (Wilding) today.” Since Kym Marsh was supposed to be here today, you have taken over. Is she sick, I wonder?
Rav added, “She is, unfortunately,” after that. She just made a call a few hours ago.
She is ill, maybe from stress, and I believe she has a lot on her plate right now. She may also have shingles. If she has it, it’s very terrible.
“Kym, I know you’re watching at home. I hope you recover quickly.”
That Kym had “so much going on with her dad” was reiterated by Gethin.
‘We know that doctors can no longer treat him,’ he confirmed.
Kym, who hasn’t posted on social media throughout the Christmas season, most recently posted a memorial to her parents.
A black and white photo from her parents’ wedding day was one of her most recent uploads.
She said in her caption that she was celebrating Christmas in 2023 with “the best couple I know.”
“We are grateful to you both for the most wonderful Christmases ever,” Kym wrote and gets a tattoo honouring her father.
“For all the laughs and fun!” For all the love and happiness! for standing in long lines to get our favourite toys. For never letting us know that your Christmas was difficult, even though we now realise it was.
‘Thank you for loving us, for bringing us so much happiness and for being the best parents we could ever have wished for.’
She added proudly: ‘So this Christmas I toast you!!!!! My amazing mum and dad!! Merry Christmas! I love you more than you will ever know. Always and forever xxxx ❤️’
