In EastEnders, Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) is about to experience the full brunt of a heated Mitchell rivalry as Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) targets her brother Phil (Steve McFadden).

As the situation truly heats up, she’s about to have a huge run-in with Phil’s son, Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden).

Kat and Phil, who were just recently married in September, almost had a cancelled wedding due to the groom’s admission of infidelity to the bride’s former boyfriend, Alfie Moon (Shane Richie), when they were at Peggy’s.

Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit) was the fortunate gal, as it were, but Phil managed to visit the registrar and, secrets notwithstanding, he and Kat do seem to be a nice fit.

All of that changes during Aunt Sal’s burial, when Sal’s husband Harold tidily reveals that Sal’s will leaves £100,000 for Sam, Phil, and their brother Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp).

As fans will remember, feisty Sal was the outspoken sister of Barbara Windsor’s Phil and Sam’s mother, Peggy Mitchell.

Sam had never heard of the windfall before.

She quickly demands money from Phil and questions him about why he hadn’t informed her.

However, there is a great deal of smoldering animosity between Phil and Sam because of Sam’s involvement with erstwhile arch-rival Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) and her support of criminal Jonah Tyler (Mark Mooney) in his bid to overthrow the Mitchell family. Thus, he refuses to give it to them.

At that moment, Sam discovers Phil had slept with Emma after overhearing Kat’s ex, Alfie Moon (Shane Richie).

It’s the explosive Sam starts blackmailing Phil because she believes she has to get the money from him.

But Phil isn’t having any of it, and Kat smells a rat when she sees her husband scheming with his son Ben across the square.

Kat heads to no 29 and confronts Ben, determined to find out what’s going on.

A major confrontation occurs, but Ben stands in for his father since he is aware of his true allegiances.

The argument occurs before Ben’s actor Max Bowden leaves EastEnders after four years, yet it’s not anticipated that the character would die.

Later, during his joint birthday celebration with Kat at the Vic, Phil makes the decision to finally give in to Sam’s demands.

However, after a heartfelt conversation with his spouse, Sam takes the platform and tells everyone about Emma and him.

It’s safe to assume that everything goes horribly wrong and that poor Kat is left in shock.
