The aftermath of the builder’s yard fire is expected to crush Ed Bailey on Coronation Street next week, as Bethany Platt seems to be holding something from Daniel Osbourne.

Craig Tinker shows up at No. 3 at the beginning of the week to bring Ed in for interrogation. Ed angrily denies having ignited the fire when Michael asks him to, but Michael may not be persuaded by his father’s statements.

Ed acknowledges to DS Swain that while he unintentionally knocked over a white spirit, he did not ignite the fire. Upon Ed and Dee-Dee’s return home, Michael charges Ed of setting fire to the garden in order to get the insurance claim. The animosity that his kid has for him breaks Ed’s heart.

At No. 3, later in the week, Michael affirms that he has talked with James and informed him about the fire and gambling debts. Craig shows up to the workplace and asks to speak with Michael, who confirms that an electrical heater caused the fire in the yard. Though Michael is glad his father was not at fault, he still feels terrible. Will Michael and Ed be able to patch things up at last, though?

Emma calls and asks Steve McDonald to spend the week in France, but he is split between seeing Tommy Orpington and his daughter. Enviously, Steve observes from his cab as Tommy arrives at No. 1 in his van before he departs for France.

Kirk Sutherland, Tim Metcalfe, and Kevin Webster soon follow and swoon over Tommy in an attempt to draw him inside the bar, but Tracy sends them on their way. There is definitely a spark between them.

Subsequently, at No. 1, Tracy chastises Tommy for his punctuality, but she is really overjoyed when he remarks on her attire. When Mary Taylor hears Toyah Habeeb talking excitedly about Tommy in his dungarees and how hot he looks, she has an epiphany.

It’s obvious that Toyah has feelings for Tommy, so Mary advises Tracy to try matchmaking. Tracy, however, has other ideas. She tells Toyah not to believe Tommy since he is a horrible womaniser and cannot be trusted. Tommy acknowledges his feelings for Tracy back at No. 1. Does Tracy have the same thoughts?

In the meanwhile, Daniel discovers Bethany deeply immersed in penning an essay in the café. However, when he inquires about the topic, Bethany becomes evasive. When Bethany’s publisher answers the phone, she’s unhappy to hear that they’re not interested in her story.

When Daniel reminds Bethany that it’s her time to get him tea at home, she pretends that she can’t because she has a deadline to meet. Concerned, Bethany glances at her overdraft and bank balance, but she hastily covers in front of Sarah. When Bethany meets with Suki from the Gazette in the hopes of finding a job, Suki suggests that she check out Chit-Chat Magazine as they could be hiring.

In addition, hungover Simon Barlow discovers that he spilled his drink on Nick Tilsley’s papers and promptly buries the proof. Simon indicates he hasn’t seen Nick’s documents and offers to print them out for him while Nick looks for them. After Simon brings in the freshly printed documentation at the cafe, Nick praises him and asks Leanne Battersby to attempt to convince Carla Connor to reinstate Simon.

Leanne begs Carla to give Simon another opportunity, emphasising that he needs guidance and that Peter’s absence has left a significant void in his life. Leanne attempts to speak with Simon again after he explains that Carla has replaced Bobby at the plant, but he orders her to stop. After Leanne overrides Nick and offers Simon a job at the cafe, Bobby recommends they have a lock-in, which tempts Simon to accept.
