Rapist Craig (Ben Addis) has sent Lydia (Karen Blick) and Sam (James Hooton) of Emmerdale to hell and back. Is this couple’s marriage ready to fall apart?
When Craig returned to the community and Lydia realised they had both been in children’s homes, the two were linked. However, Craig tricked Lydia into coming closer than she felt comfortable with his devious intentions from the beginning, and once he had her entire confidence, he sexually assaulted her.
Even though it didn’t happen right away, he eventually got his comeuppance when Kim Tate’s (Claire King) horse crushed him to death after Sam had first beaten him.
The world gained one less scumbag, but Lydia and Sam’s relationship suffered at every turn throughout this dreadful struggle.
Initially, the family didn’t think Craig could possibly do anything wrong, which made Lydia feel alone, alone, and embarrassed. In the days prior to his wife being able to come to terms with what had transpired, Sam did not provide his support.
When Lydia did eventually talk to Sam about the rape, she trembled at the slightest contact and was unable to even look at him. He watched his wife suffer and felt helpless and impotent, even concluding that she no longer loved him.
When pressed, Sam admitted that he had probably murdered Craig after severely assaulting him; Craig was subsequently discovered dead. Lydia decided not to spend Christmas with her family since she took this very personally.
They managed to get through everything, but now they face a greater obstacle since Sam seems to be the one who has lost interest in them.
Sam’s conduct towards Lydia has changed, and Lydia worries he may be becoming disinterested.
