On Thursday night, the villainous character went “too far” in his nasty plot with wife Belle Dingle, leaving Emmerdale fans stunned.

On Thursday night, a shocking Tom King surprise left Emmerdale watchers stunned.

The popular ITV soap opera revealed earlier in the year that it would portray Belle Dingle and Tom’s harsh and domineering marriage. Belle covered up the fact that Tom pushed her last year, which caused her to hit her head, so there are signals that this might turn into physical abuse as well as mental abuse. Tom has been displaying obvious signs of coercive control.

Belle hasn’t disclosed Tom’s actions to anybody yet, but as he begins to use other technological means to exert control over her, things will only get more troubling. Tom continued to show alarming symptoms on Thursday night’s programme, after his earlier this week covert disruption of Belle’s new employment.

As the Dingles celebrated Marlon’s birthday, Tom and Belle got into a heated dispute outside over Belle’s family and job, which led to even more abuse. He kicked the air in a fit of wrath and unintentionally knocked over Belle’s mother Lisa’s ashes. Belle was devastated, but vile Tom refused to accept responsibility, saying there ought to have been a notice and that it was a “stupid” location to lay Lisa’s ashes.

Tom felt smug to witness his wife lie to her family on his behalf when Belle later told them she had knocked over the ashes. After the party, Tom wouldn’t allow Belle get into his vehicle since she had indicated that she would rather walk home. Tom then gave her the finger and told her to get in the car, but Belle refused.

Viewers expressed their horror at the moments on Twitter, where one user said, “The gasp I just breathed #emmerdale!” while another account wrote, “Tom! Now that’s too far. I believe Vinnie will recognise what is happening and assist Belle, or else Belle needs to comprehend what he is doing. “So angry that Tom made Belle take the blame for smashing her own mother’s ashes #Emmerdale,” remarked another user. “Omg this is heartbreaking, Tom is pure evil,” another fan commented. #emmerdale.

Over the next several weeks, the soap opera will delve into the intricate nature of domestic violence, showcasing a range of abusive behaviours such as coercive control, emotional abuse, physical abuse, and abuse assisted by technology, all of which Tom has shown. It will also show how things may become worse over time and how manipulation, love bombing, and seclusion from friends and family can all be used.

In addition to the domestic abuse charity New Beginnings Peer Support, Emmerdale has been collaborating with outside partners to do research on this difficult subject. This is because there has been an increase in Tech Abuse in the wake of the Covid epidemic, where partners are tracked and controlled via trackers and hidden cameras.
