Fans of EastEnders are certain that Michael French’s iconic character David Wicks may soon make a significant comeback.

After making his television debut in 1993, the former owner of a car lot has not been seen in the BBC serial opera for ten years.

With several connections to Albert Square, including being the father of the recent returnee Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) and the half brother of veteran Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt), he may return for a second term.

At his father Pete Beale’s (Peter Dean) funeral, he met up again with his estranged mother Pat Butcher (Pam St Clement) during his first run in Walford.

Before Carol Jackson (Lindsey Coulson) disclosed that she was actually his daughter and that she hadn’t had an abortion years prior, there was once hope for a romantic relationship between him and Bianca.

In an odd and contentious turn of events, he afterwards acknowledged that even after learning of her parentage, he was still drawn to her sexually.

In order to be with her partner, Ian, she hired a hitman to kill her husband after having an affair with Michelle Collins’ character Cindy Beale.

David was shot, but he lived. His friends and family turned against him, and he was forced to leave Walford.

He came to Pat’s side in her final days sixteen years later, having learned that she was suffering from pancreatic cancer.

He had a tumultuous reunion with his ex-girlfriend Carol during the next two years, but she felt he had betrayed her once more after he had a heart attack on their wedding day.

Even after they made up, he took a risk and eloped to America, leaving her heartbroken.

Since then, the character has been mentioned multiple times, most recently in last night’s episode (March 27), which took place at Walford East on a date night between Martin Fowler (James Bye) and Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy).

As the two got to know one another, David’s name was brought up by Martin when he talked about the lengthy history of his notorious fruit and vegetable stand on the Bridge Street Market.

Earlier this month, in episodes set in Milton Keynes, Bianca made reference to him as well.

Many devoted followers were emphatic that he should return, taking to X/Twitter and Reddit.

“Klaxon, David Wicks!” Return him to you! One user sobbed.

This is Martin mentioning David once more today! Another person said, “Can he please hurry up and come back already?”

“We need David Wicks to return home and finally treat Ar Carol right so they can both go happily.”

A viewer said, “I miss my David Wicks.”

Would you be happy to see the well-known character return?
