In the midst of Lauren Bolton’s murder investigation, Coronation Street has announced that Nicky Wheatley will be returning to the cobbles in an attempt to assist Daniel Osbourne.

Kimberly Hart Simpson will return to her prior sex work career after a two-year hiatus. Rob Mallard’s character Nicky, as Daniel, seeks assistance from an old acquaintance.

Viewers of the ITV soap opera are aware that Roy Cropper (David Neilson) is DS Lisa Swain’s top suspect in the murder of Lauren, the adolescent girl who vanished. However, Daniel is aware that he is also a target of suspicion, having been questioned by the tough detective sergeant last month.

Since Roy fired Lauren from the café after she confessed to stealing from Bethany Platt’s purse while working shift, Lauren hasn’t been seen for weeks. It seems as if she departed the cobbles suddenly.

But since Max Turner told DS Swain about his tutoring of Lauren and how he thought Daniel was Lauren’s secret lover, the disappearance has turned into a murder investigation, with Roy as the prime suspect and Daniel now being questioned.

In an effort to defend his record, he enlists the assistance of Nicky, who was formerly an escort herself when she first met Daniel. Daniel had turned to Nicky for emotional support after the death of his wife Sinead from cancer.

Daniel thinks Nicky, who is now working as a community outreach worker, would be able to assist in gathering information concerning Lauren’s abduction from the girls she helps on the streets.

The two still have a connection, and although Nicky is eager to try and support Daniel, the girls she works with are afraid and exposed as a result of the murder of Lauren. Is there any way Nicky might get them to talk more and provide more information about the potential attacker?

Kimberly said, “It’s been four years since we first met Nicky and it is once again a pleasure to be back on the cobbles,” in reference to her guest appearance as Nicky. The experiences of women working in the sex business are often ignored, denigrated, or kept silent.

“But not at Coronation Street, they respectfully explore the world these women live in, the impact it has on the community and at some points dangers attached to the work.”

“The story of Lauren Bolton has, sadly, led to the devastating effects of conspiracy theories by other folk, but it has also allowed other characters, like Cassie, to come forward safely,” she said. Since Nicky has defied all clichés, I’m excited for the audience to learn more about her current situation and identity.”
