Coronation Street’s Peter Ash’s devastating update on Paul’s future as he admits ‘he’s having a real problem breathing’

Coronation Street star Peter Ash has opened up about his character Paul Foreman’s ongoing battle with MND, as well as the shock arrival of Paul’s estranged dad Denny

The actor Peter Ash of Coronation Street has provided an update on Paul Foreman’s condition, as his symptoms of motor neuron disease are still progressing quickly. Paul, trying to make the most of his remaining time, is shocked to see his estranged father Denny (Danny Cunningham) in forthcoming scenes.

It seems that Paul makes an appearance on Amy Barlow’s (Elle Mulvaney) radio programme, which is how Denny finds him. Paul gives him a chance even though he didn’t get along well with his father, and the two of them go to the bar.

Actor Peter discussed the plot, saying: “I believe that a few years ago, in the absence of the MND diagnosis, he would have essentially told his dad to do one.” because he was everything but pleasant. However, I believe Paul now views things differently because it’s clear that he is dying, and he has a new perspective on that.”

During their trip, Peter notes that Denny and Paul “get on alright” and that his father treats him like a “normal person”. But when Denny comes to the apartment the next day, he finds Paul in a terrible mood after leaving him alone for too long. Paul tries to phone for help but can’t get through.

Yes, he is really having trouble breathing. Peter stated, “I think it’s still on his lungs, which is what causes the coughing fit the next day. He drinks a little too much the day before when he goes to the pub with Denny, and he’s a little sick that day.”

It makes sense that Paul’s partner Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) is upset about the current situation. When he discovers that Denny has not only brought Paul to the bar but also removed his neck collar—which supports Paul’s head—he is not pleased.

The entrance of Denny has also caused Paul’s mother Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) and sister Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) to become unhappy. “They’re not impressed at all,” Peter continued. Paul seems to be the most optimistic about his comeback, at least initially, in my opinion. Since he is pressed for time, he truly wants to have everything resolved as soon as possible.”

The actor also discussed his experiences playing Paul as the character’s MND symptoms worsen. Accepting that he has “a responsibility” to make sure the representation is as true as possible, Peter said.

Since Paul moves a lot less and I spend a lot of time in the chair, playing is somewhat easier. There is a certain level of muscle memory when you do something often, and I also notice that when I sit in a chair, my arm immediately adjusts to its posture,” the actor said.

“I have worked a lot on my voice; I have to speak so that people can understand, but I also have to show that Paul is having trouble speaking,” he said. I also believe it is my duty to ensure that the representation is truthful.”

ITV broadcasts Coronation Street on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
