Murder shocker as vile Coronation Street villain returns while Lauren truth is ‘revealed’ in spring preview

Terror, tragedy and secrets finally exposed – what a spring there is to come in Weatherfield! (Picture: Metro.co.uk/ITV)

Soap enthusiasts, it’s preview season for spring, and Coronation Street promises to be thrilling in the upcoming months with a tonne of surprises, heartaches, and dramatic romances.

It’s reasonable to suppose that everything will reach a breaking point before summer arrives, given the mystery surrounding Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) disappearance and the unfairness of Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson) incarceration.

He holds a hot water bottle and adds, “Well, if summer ever hits.”

One of the most villainous villains in soap opera history, Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper), returns during this storyline and is freed from jail, which can only be Bethany Platt’s (Lucy Fallon) worst nightmare.

But is he responsible for Lauren’s current situation, as several admirers have theorised in the past?

Don’t think, though, that it’s all Lauren madness—there are a lot of other things happening, including surprising relationships, new casts, a menacing return, and a potentially hazardous scenario.

Will the father of Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) worsen his son’s last few months? Will Steve McDonald (played by Simon Gregson) find true love at last? Will Jane Danson’s character, Leanne Battersby, find herself in the worst possible danger?

And that’s only the very beginning!

Nasty Nathan returns to Weatherfield

According to reports, ITV soap opera star Christopher Harper, who played the evil Nathan Curtis, has returned to the show for a future tale.

Viewers will remember Nathan as the manager of Supreme Tanning and as a notorious member of a group that groomed young females, Bethany Platt among them.

He’s going to stir things up on the cobbles once he gets out of prison, especially if he runs across the people he harmed!

A few months prior, several fans had made predictions about his return, suggesting that he may have been involved in Lauren Bolton’s abduction.

While Bethany departed the cobbles in 2020, Lucy Fallon returned to the position just a year ago.

What really happened to Lauren?

Even though Lauren Bolton hasn’t been seen or heard from since February, we still don’t fully understand what happened to her.

We still don’t know who her rich, domineering lover really is, even after months of talking about him.

Has her absence been influenced by the fact that we also know she had resorted to selling sexual video on the subscription website O-Vidz in order to pay her escalating energy bills?

Since then, Daniel Osborne has reconnected with his old friend and former sex worker Nicky Wheatley, hoping she may provide some insight into whether or not she was hanging out with the same people.

DS Lisa Swain and her colleagues believe she was murdered when she appeared to vanish out of thin air, but the reality is still unknown because no corpse has been discovered.

Justice for Roy!

The renowned café owner was falsely charged with Lauren’s murder and, after being denied bail, was imprisoned at Highfield Prison before the trial started.

In an attempt to be a kind person, he assisted in tidying her flat after she vanished and inadvertently disposed of important evidence.

Even his neighbours have begun to doubt his innocence due to the extreme twisting of his innocence and good nature.

Viewers nationwide have been calling for his release in a campaign to parallel that of Deirdre Barlow’s bogus incarceration in 1998, but it’s becoming less and less likely given the evidence against him.

Will everything work themselves out before it’s too late?

Paul’s dad returns in his dying days

Paul Foreman, who was tragically diagnosed with terminal motor neurone disease, has had a difficult time adjusting to his new life. He now uses a motorised wheelchair, depends on carers, or PAs as he prefers, to help him with daily tasks, and has to record common phrases on a tablet in case he becomes unable to speak.

In future scenes, Johnny will have to overcome an additional challenge when his violent and errant father Denny reappears for the first time in decades.

Paul appears to be trying to mend their connection after they were split up as children, but is it too little, too late?

“I don’t think he’s changed that much,” actor Peter Ash remarked. Paul is left alone by him for a little while, and they plan to watch a movie and simply hang out.

However, Denny leaves, leaving him alone for an extended period of time even though he shouldn’t have. As Paul finally returns to the flat, he starts coughing a little, which kind of freaks Denny off.

His presence on the cobblestones unnerves Bernie Winter, who then has a heart-to-heart with her partner Dev Alahan and begins going through old files and pictures.

Is Denny a different guy now, and what is she searching for?

The Institute takes hold of Leanne

We may infer that Rowan Cunliffe, the head of the enigmatic Altovalent Institute, had less than ideal intentions as soon as Leanne Battersby met him.

His hazardous “reality coding” theories, which he used to con her out of hundreds of pounds and rely on her weakness, have so far raised eyebrows within her family.

Sam, her thirteen-year-old stepson, has even expressed doubts about Rowan’s “inspirational” lectures.

Simon Barlow has also joined the cult, but after overcoming alcoholism, he gained a new outlook on life and began to consider staying in Weatherfield.

He regrets not going on the same journey with his father Peter, who has reached out to him several times to boast about the amazing time he’s having overseas.

After 15 years on the programme, we know that Alex Bain has recorded his last scenes. Could he be going boating with his dad?

The fall out of Toyah’s baby secret

This week, we witnessed Toyah tell Nick that, following her 2001 rape by Phil Simmonds, she buried a stillborn child in North Cross Park 23 years prior.

The shocking admission was made public when super sleuths started excavating the park in an attempt to locate Lauren’s remains. Later, a report that the police had been investigating the area raised concerns that Lauren’s greatest secret may be exposed.

Nick swiftly stopped her on her way to the station to reveal all after learning that it was a false alarm.

When she finally told her sister Leanne the truth, they had a touching time together at the cemetery.

Back at Victoria Court, though, Nick expressed his pride in her for opening up, and they shared an embrace that may have lasted a bit longer than it should have.

Is an affair likely to occur?

DS Swain’s life is explored

Lisa Swain, the detective looking into Lauren Bolton’s disappearance, will join Coronation Street as a new regular, the programme said earlier this year.

We’ll meet her kid and discover more about her relationships when the role is enlarged.

Actress Vicky Myers teased TV Times, saying, ‘I suppose she might have spotted somebody that’s grabbed her eye but at the moment she’s far too busy with focusing on this investigation and her work and being a single mommy and managing her home life as well with her teenage daughter’.

“Anyone with a teenage daughter can definitely relate to what I’m saying,” the speaker said.

It’s obviously fantastic to depict something with realism and to be artistically pushed by it, and I’m grateful for the chance.

In other parts of Weatherfield

Dylan Wilson is about to experience further upheaval after being found guilty of having a knife after Mason Radcliffe’s brutal bullying of Liam Connor.

The actor who portrays his father on TV, Antony Cotton, discussed the narrative in a recent interview with Good Morning Britain: “We’re telling a story about knife crime, and that’s where it’s going to go. This is just the beginning.”

We also know that Adam Barlow and his coworker Alya Nazir are developing a romantic relationship, but may it end before it starts since she is moving to Dublin for an intriguing new job?

In addition, former Hollyoaks actor Jacob Roberts has committed to a fascinating new part in the show.

Seemingly entangled in Lauren’s vanishing act, would he be her covert romantic partner and possess the clues to her “murder”?
