Coronation Street fans say soap will ‘owe them’ as they spot another new romance that ‘makes sense’

Since it seems like one of the cherished friendships on the ITV soap opera is ending, Coronation Street viewers are devastated and have asked the executives, “What have you done?”

As long-running viewers of the programme are aware, Lauren Bolton vanished for a few weeks after being fired by Roy Cropper from her position at Roy’s Rolls on February 23. Afterwards, the proprietor of the cafe paid her a visit and gave her some more money to help her get by.

However, the teenager’s house was visited shortly after by an unknown visitor that viewers were never able to see, and she hasn’t been seen in Weatherfield since. Meanwhile, Bobby, Carla Connor’s nephew, discovered Carla Connor’s flat open and strangely unoccupied.

However, when blood was discovered in Lauren’s flat, the missing person case quickly turned into a murder investigation. After it became clear that Roy was the last person to see Evelyn Plummer alive, DS Lisa Swain immediately made him her top suspect. His fingerprints were later discovered on a condom wrapper in the apartment after he foolishly gave it a thorough cleaning in an attempt to aid sub-letter Evelyn Plummer.

Since then, Roy has been charged with Lauren’s murder. After an altercation with one of the several online sleuths who had been pursuing him over Lauren’s potential death, Roy was subsequently denied bail.

And although though Bobby had his doubts about Roy at first, he later sought to support Roy after witnessing his aunt’s worry for her friend and told the police that he saw a guy leave Lauren’s flat, even if it wasn’t Roy. Since then, Carla has learned of her nephew’s deception and has accepted it in an effort to support Roy and keep Bobby safe.

However, Roy was discovered slumped in his cell during Monday night’s (April 29) episode of Corrie, as he feverishly attempted to determine the cause of his visions of a conversation between Lauren and Max Turner at the cafe.

Nina Lucas came to see Roy, but she was left waiting and discovered him splayed out on the floor of his cell. Carla was anxious to meet Roy later in the hospital, but she found out that he had removed her name from the list of visitors.

Soon after, DS Swain was up, as Roy had requested to talk with her. However, Roy chose not to tell her the truth about what Bobby and Carla had done, and when he did speak to Carla at last, he took decisive action.

“Roy, no, you don’t mean that!” an irate Carla retorted to Roy’s statement, “I feel very uncomfortable and I’d rather you didn’t visit me again—in fact, as far as I’m concerned, this is the end of our friendship.” But Roy went on: “I’m afraid I do now, I would prefer you to leave… Carla burst into tears as he turned his head back and closed his eyes, saying, “I really need to rest.”

Carla was reduced to tears.

Additionally, the scenes outraged Corrie fans as well. said @kate_shaw1984: “No, Roy. Avoid doing this, @itvcorrie. Why are you interfering with the bond between Carla and Roy? #Corrie. @corriedalexo tweeted: “NOOO CARLA AND ROY this is making me sob corrie why are you doing this to me #corrie.”

@NatalieCox101 exclaimed: “What have you done, Corrie? The breakup of Roy and Carla’s friendship is a complete shame.” “Now why did Corrie have to destroy Roy and Carla’s friendship?” said @matt_johnson_89. Nice things just don’t seem to be possible for us anymore, #Corrie.”

“One of the best things about Corrie is the friendship between Roy and Carla and how much they mean to each other,” @doctorwho6 said. It’s unbelievable to me that the writers would sever their friendship. I sincerely hope not.
