We’ve been waiting for this moment, when Emmerdale abuser Tom King (James Chase) flips the script on his wife Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper), making her shoulder the brunt of his harsh and violent deeds.

Belle has been subjected to extortion-level gaslighting by Tom, who even made her believe that she had burnt her own hand during their argument.

Belle was prepared to leave their marriage, but Tom used his cunning to make her believe that she was to blame for everything and that he was ready to forgive her.

He then returned her wedding rings, saying the police had discovered them when, in reality, he had concealed them after the burglary he had staged.

After they eventually sit down to discuss it, Belle is still a little uneasy about his aggressive conduct, and Tom promises to get assistance. They agree that he will visit Liam, but when he gets there, he tells the doctor that Belle is the one who has anger management problems—yet another game he’s playing.

Belle’s shift in conduct has Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) and Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) worried since it seems like she’s ignoring them.

Tom keeps it to himself that he put an innocent Belle under the bus, but he makes a big show of how nicely his doctor’s visit went later over dinner.

Tom’s work is far from over. When Lisa’s death anniversary arrives, Tom deftly arranges for Belle to have to stay inside to receive a delivery, preventing her from celebrating the day at a picnic with her family.

Belle defies him to honour her mother’s life, but doing so will cost her dearly, particularly when Tom returns home fuming after his performance evaluation in which Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) and Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) berate him.

When he gets home and discovers Belle missed the package, he is on thin ice. She’s had enough, but now he’s blowing out at her. When he accuses her of spoiling the day and says hurtful things about her mother, she is prepared for him.

She is finally at her breaking point and lets go with her hatred on Tom, but sadly for her, other villagers see her shoving Tom to the ground out of passion.

Tom gives the witnesses the performance of his life as she plays perfectly into his hands.

The day he stomped over Lisa’s ashes, there was a deft little hint of foreshadowing; Charles saw Belle shouting angrily at her husband, and the vicar seemed worried for the veterinarian.

To further reinforce Tom’s perception of his innocence, Belle has concealed all of his violent and abusive deeds.

Will Tom take it a step further and fabricate a story about himself as a victim of domestic abuse as well?
