Coronation Street spoilers: Audrey stuns David and Maria with huge news

Audrey’s announcement startled David and Maria (Picture: ITV)

In recent Coronation Street scenes, Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) was shocked to see an estate agent taking photographs outside Trim Up North.

After her son Stephen took out an equity release behind her back, she hurried to Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) for answers. Audrey informed her that she needed to place the property on the market in order to repurchase her home.

Regarding the future implications for workers Maria and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), Audrey disclosed that one of them will lose their job as she would be occupying one of the salon’s seats.

After receiving this shocking news, Maria and David went to the café to talk about the future and speculate on who would be most likely to lose their job.

Although David thought Audrey would stick with “golden girl” Maria, she claimed that although David was like family, blood was stronger than water.

They both agreed that Audrey ought to be getting closer to retirement rather than increasing her employment.

Maria was adamantly opposed to the idea when Gary Windass (Mikey North) recommended they purchase Trim Up North, so they had no option except to attempt to persuade Audrey.

Fortunately, Helen Worth’s character Gail Platt was there to help with it.

Gail went over to the salon where she sat with Audrey and talked things over after a difficult encounter with Maria and David, who had both told Audrey where she could put their jobs. It was then that Gail realized Audrey was still holding herself responsible for what Stephen had done.

Audrey ultimately seemed to acknowledge that what had occurred wasn’t her fault and acknowledged that she didn’t know what to do with the salon when Gail pointed out that she had turned out well, proving Audrey couldn’t have been a bad mother.

But she’d chosen quickly, and she went to the cafe to inform David and Maria that she was going to follow their advise and retire.

When she said that she had two choices: sell it or appoint someone to be manager, Maria immediately offered herself.

Audrey had already made the decision that she wanted Maria and David to co-manage, and they were both willing to agree, so she didn’t need to worry.

Will Audrey come to regret her choice?
