Eden Taylor-Draper, Lisa Riley’s co-star in Emmerdale, has won praise for her depiction of Belle Dingle in the show’s “horrific” coercive control plot.
In recent months, viewers of the ITV soap opera have witnessed in terror as Tom King (James Chase) has brutalised his wife Belle in graphic scenes.
Lisa, who portrays Belle’s on-screen aunt Mandy Dingle, has asked for Belle to win several accolades for her performance and stated that after seeing her, she feels like Eden’s real-life aunt.
Before Mandy’s second marriage to her ex-husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) next week, Lisa made the following statement to OK! magazine: “We just had Belle and Tom’s wedding, which is very different from Paddy and Mandy’s.” As a show, it’s amazing that we’ve transported Belle and Tom to a wedding that ought to be magnificent, but the way things have turned out ever since has been terrible and just gets worse.
“I become emotional when I think about Eden; I’m the proudest aunt.”
Lisa mentioned that they had just finished recording an episode in which Belle and Tom hosted a dinner party for other couples in the village, and during their private time together, Tom continued to mistreat Belle.
“I talked to Eden, and she told me those were difficult days for her,” she said. “Do you have any idea how proud I am of you?” I hugged her as we returned to the dressing room after day two of filming the dinner party. She’s amazing, and I adore her.
“Eden handles it brilliantly too, and it’s hard, long days playing that emotion,” Lisa went on. She needs to be quiet in the corner while the rest of us fool around on the set. I will be her strongest supporter and I want her to succeed in everything.
Belle has been trying to get away from Tom in recent weeks after realising he is manipulating her.
Tom’s actor James Chase recently expressed his desire for Tom to have his just desserts, adding, “It’s what he deserves.” He is unable to get away with it.
He continued, saying, “I don’t know how the story would end or to what extent that would be, but I would think it would have to be something like that because she needs justice for what’s happened to her.”
“The audience must see Belle triumph in the end, or at the very least, for him to lose, after all the suffering we’ve seen Belle go through.”
James went on to say that he believed there should be at least a jail sentence as the final result. At the very least, that is required. I’m not entirely sure. All of them are fascinating.
