Big Brother star Kerry apologises for causing offence by voting Tory

Kerry Riches, a Big Brother star, has responded to the backlash she unintentionally caused when she disclosed in the house that she had once voted for the Conservatives.

The NHS employee was covertly nominated for eviction on Halloween night along with Dylan Tennant and Olivia Young by the eerily “possessed” Noky Simbani and Trish Balusa.

Kerry stated that she was “really, really tired” in the days preceding her elimination from the ITV2 programme and that she was prepared to depart.

Following her departure, the forty-year-old talked to Metro.co.uk about her thoughts on the criticism she received from certain fans for disclosing her political views.

Kerry expressed her regret to any viewers who were let down by her disclosure, even though she emphasised that she would not support the Conservatives if given the choice.

“It feels very genuine inside.” I completely forgot about the cameras, and you say, “Well, I did,” in response to questions about your political influence. As a family, it has served us well thus far, she remarked.

Would I cast another vote for them? Definitely not right now. Naturally, I wouldn’t. However, four years ago, the inquiry was about who you voted for. If it has angered people, that’s unfortunate since I consider myself to be quite sensible and I would never abstain from voting. Women endured much too much to get us the right to vote. I would cast a ballot.

Given her maternal position in the house, the Big Brother star departed the programme jokingly dressed as a “mummy.” She went on, “I’m sorry if that’s been the case, but I’d like to think that we wouldn’t.” In the house, we definitely didn’t use anyone’s political beliefs against them, and maybe we’ve gone past that in the outside world.

“I would be saddened to think that I am not liked by everyone, but as a family, we find that a particular political viewpoint is beneficial to us.”

Kerry declared that she “loved” to hear different points of view expressed by members of the house, like Paul’s when he talked about Labour and the miners.

“I understand and as I previously stated, I would not be voting for them [the Conservatives] this time,” she remarked.

It has been a while since there has been a general election. I’m quite sincere. Sincerely, you get what you see. I didn’t hesitate to respond to that question; in fact, we all did. If just my response was broadcast, I apologise, but everyone responded.

Some viewers took issue with Kerry’s statement that she “begrudges” paying a larger proportion of taxes since she is in a higher tax bracket.

One enraged viewer remarked on X (previously Twitter): “Kerry moaning about being in the highest tax bracket when we’re literally in a cost of living crisis.”

“Obviously, I’m not in the higher higher bracket, that’s ridiculous,” Kerry stated in response to the attention her statements got. However, there comes a point at which you will pay 40% tax on any income that exceeds a particular threshold.

“Perhaps more people would have been in that tax bracket too if they were honest.”

Kerry went on to say, “Of course, I’m sorry if it offended anybody, but I’ve worked really hard to get where I am,” stressing that she is the household’s primary provider. Twenty-one years ago, I began as a Band 2 PA for £7,000. I worked hard to get where I am now, and it’s not easy.

I was also given a multiple sclerosis diagnosis around that period. Being a handicapped lady from Essex who speaks the same as me makes it challenging for me to sit through a board meeting. Of course I’m proud of where I’ve come to.

Kerry hasn’t had time to watch the full Big Brother season since leaving the house, but she has watched Dylan’s dramatic outburst from yesterday night’s show, in which he vented his rage about being nominated for eviction by Noky and Trish, therefore “disgusting” viewers.

His tirade, in her opinion, was “disappointing,” and she emphasised that he had “done himself no favours.”

In a lighter vein, fans will be happy to learn that Kerry is aware of the bald memes that have been making the rounds on social media, in which users have cropped images of her and removed her hair, sometimes drawing comparisons to bald TV characters.

“I just witnessed it!” Paddy, the Emmerdale character. Adore it. Other than that one, I haven’t seen anything. “What a complete genius,” she said.

I don’t want other people to take me or myself too seriously. Life is too short to not be happy. I enjoy making fun of myself.

There, I was frequently the target of jokes, and I don’t want that to change. I’m very grounded, I adore it, and no, thank you. I feel quite flattered that someone has taken the time to do this. It seems incredible to me.
