When the legendary actress returned to the BBC One drama earlier this year, fans were thrilled to see the Beale family members together on screen for the first time.

When it was announced that the 31-year-old serial actress would be returning to Walford in the new year, excitement grew even more.

But Lauren won’t be going back to the Square by herself—her cousin Penny Branning will also be making her fifteen-year reappearance.

Next, after some recent incidents, Lauren and Penny (Kitty Castledine) decide to return to Walford together while they are in Paris.

However, Penny returns to the Square by herself in later sequences, and Lauren is nowhere to be found.

What fate has in store for her?

How will Penny be received upon her return?

What is Lauren’s fate?

Penny, who is Jack and Selina Branning’s daughter, was initially spotted in Walford at the beginning of 2008.

Jack was attempting valiantly to build a relationship with his daughter at the time, but his intentions were derailed when Penny’s mother Selina made the decision to relocate to France and bring her daughter along.

April 2008 saw Penny return to the Square, but she remained distant from Jack’s then-girlfriend Ronnie Mitchell.

Penny lost communication with her father Jack once she returned to France, and he thought she had made the correct decision by stepping away from him.

Jack moved to France in October 2013 in an attempt to get back in touch with his daughter, but he ultimately decided to settle down in Walford permanently.

Penny was reported to have informed Jack that she would not be able to attend his wedding to Ronnie in December 2016 because she had a medical appointment in Paris, even though she remained unaccounted for.

Fans of the long-running soap opera will remember that Penny was intentionally hit by a drug dealer Jack was attempting to apprehend, breaking her back with his automobile, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down.

The last time Max Branning brought up Penny was in February 2020, during a heated dispute with his brother Jack.

How will she find her mark in the Square again?

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
