James Chase’s character Tom King from Emmerdale is determined to run all facets of his new bride Belle Dingle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) life, or Belle King, as he insisted on her being called.

Being a King instead of a Dingle was a powerful metaphor of his attempts to keep her away from her family. When the Dingles took over the wedding, he tried to take charge and got upset.

He pouted on the wedding night, sending Belle to sleep alone downstairs, and the following day, he played the classic gaslighting role by pretending not to know what was wrong.

Eden Taylor-Draper has forewarned that Belle’s situation would worsen significantly as this plot develops.

Belle doesn’t know what’s about to happen. Behind the scenes dramas can emerge in relationships. As a viewer, I believe it’s the best thing because it gives you a behind-the-scenes look. Indeed, she informed us, “things like this might be happening to some extent behind a lot of closed doors.”

In soon-to-air episodes, Belle continues to argue that she wants to put off having children, which irritates Tom.

Tom is attempting to exert control over her desire to concentrate more on her work. She mentions that Suzy (Martelle Edinborough) offered her a job at Take A Vow, and Suzy is astonished to see her working at the vet’s reception desk.

Belle is furious to learn that Tom neglected to forward Suzy’s request for him to pass along a message regarding this job offer, as she was not aware of it at all.

She uses Suzy to stand in for Tom, but she later confronts her husband for failing to deliver the message. Tom persuades her, just as he has done all of his life.

He hasn’t been able to fire her from Take A Vow, though, and she gladly accepted Suzy’s offer. However, when Suzy casually calls Belle’s first customer her “perfect match,” Tom is not amused and is furious.

What response will Tom give this? To what extent should Belle concern us?
