Fans of Coronation Street have long pondered if Joel Deering (Calum Lill), a solicitor, may be connected in some way to Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) unexplained disappearance.

And as the truth of Lauren’s fate approaches to be unveiled in a special week of episodes, the possibility that Joel is the perpetrator grows.

Joel had been with Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) for a short time when she discovered he had been hiding a significant secret from her: he had a wife and kid that he had never thought to bring up to her.

We thus know that he is capable of telling a compelling lie when necessary, but it clearly does not suggest that he is a potential murderer.

Even more worrisome are certain hints from his previous actions. Was the pricey pair of cufflinks he purchased connected to the elegant necklace that Lauren’s covert “boyfriend” gifted her?

And then there were the roses that Lauren’s “boyfriend” sent her in February. Joel sent Dee-Dee a nearly similar bouquet. Again, not quite a red flag, but rather a clue to a darker mystery.

The likeness between Joel and the evil Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper) that viewers of Corrie have noticed has also drawn speculation that Joel is the brother of the perverted who has just returned to Weatherfield from prison after grooming and raping Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon).

We’ll find out what really happened to Lauren over the special week of episodes (Picture: ITV)

Nathan is taken into custody by the police after they discover one of Lauren’s hairs in his vehicle in later episodes. Taking one of Lauren’s hair bobbles that Lauren left at the Platts, Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) attempts to use it as evidence against Nathan in order to get rid of him by hiding it in his vehicle at the construction site.

Police officer Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) catches her in the act and issues a warning, telling her to let the cops do their work. Although the police also discover USB sticks in the vehicle that would violate Nathan’s sexual harm prevention order, the hair might have originated from that.

Joel shows up to the police station to represent Nathan. When Dee-Dee learns that her boyfriend is defending a morally reprehensible guy whose arrest presents the greatest chance for Roy Cropper (David Neilson) to be freed from jail, she becomes enraged.

“Dee-Dee is not pleased with Joel’s representation of Nathan,” We learned from Channique Sterling-Brown.

Dee-Dee is so morally grounded, and Nathan could have the key to establishing Roy’s innocence. Furthermore, there will undoubtedly be some conflict between Joel and Dee-Dee since Nathan is someone who has harmed Bethany and Dee-Dee and Sarah are close friends.

Is Joel going to disclose a more intimate relationship with Nathan, though? Is he the solution to the riddle of Lauren Bolton’s murder?
