On the Emmerdale set, he ran across his ex-wife Charley, with whom he began dating in 2007.

However, she issued a statement in November 2023 announcing that, after five years of marriage, they had parted ways.

The three kids that the former soap opera lovers still share are Ace, 4, Bowie, 8, and Buster, 13.

During his Monday appearance on Loose Women, Matthew spoke with presenter Charlene White their experience parenting his children together after their divorce.

He said, “I think we are still finding our way.” “I mean the good thing is me and Charley are best mates and that is fantastic.”

He went on: “We are still getting used to it, so we’re still figuring out how to do it properly. It’s still new to us. And I believe that we are.”

He received encouragement from panellist Kéllé Bryan, who said, “Look, you are co-parenting and that is what it is all about.”

Matthew abruptly departed Emmerdale in the previous year.

Before he made the decision to go on, he portrayed one of the most enduring roles on the Dales.

Matthew left the serial opera because he was “bored” with the storylines of his characters, a source told The Sun.

“Matthew has had an amazing time on the soap opera, but feels ready for a change,” a TV insider said at the time.

He’s been wanting to check out what else is available since he hasn’t been receiving any tough narratives lately.

“He is a fan darling, so whatever he chooses to do next, he will have a lot of support.

“He’s ecstatic about the prospects at hand.

The screenwriters are now figuring out his on-screen farewell, since he has only recently announced his departure. It’s feasible that David will die.”
