Chris Chittell, who is best known for portraying Eric Pollard in Emmerdale on ITV, has spoken candidly about his fear of losing his job there after participating in pornographic movies.
Chris starred in many movies, such as Practice Makes Perfect, Let Us Play Sex, and Sex in Sweden, before he was cast in Emmerdale in 1986.
These credits made Chris worry that his time on Emmerdale might be limited.
“Even after working in Emmerdale for years, I always believed I would be fired,” he said to The Sunday Mirror.
Because of the nature of those movies, I believed I would never work in England again. Thank God, I’ve improved ever since.
He went on, “I worked on movies like Let Us Play Sex and Swedish Sex Games when I was broke, having incurred enormous expenses and witnessed a number of business failures.” The first was an antiques company.
Another was an Italian-Jewish restaurant in London’s Hatton Garden. I used them to settle some heavy-lifting debts and pay off some expenses.
The current Emmerdale plot for Chris centers on Eric’s acceptance of his Parkinson’s diagnosis.
A few weeks back, Eric sobbed and disclosed his health struggle to Mandy (Lisa Riley) in a conversation. Although he said he didn’t want his loved ones to know, the adored character is now often seen expressing gratitude to people like Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) and Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) for their support.
Manpreet spoke with Eric last week after learning that he was experiencing a tremor in his hand.
She clarified that despite his diagnosis, he should accept who he is and not see the world through a “Parkinson’s lens.”
