In tonight’s poignant Coronation Street Boxing Day episode, Carla Connor (Alison King) and Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), who have spent more than ten years together, are scheduled to part ways.

The pair is undoubtedly having difficulties after a trying few months during which Carla’s cherished enterprise faced closure and Peter struggled after the death of Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce).

Together, they consider their turbulent history and all of the highs and lows they have shared over the years, and they finally decide that they are better off apart.

When Carla and Peter first started dating twelve years ago, they were both dealing with alcohol issues. After Carla’s horrific experience of being raped by Frank Foster, they became close through their shared problems and soon had an affair.

But Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) left Peter and Carla and Peter went public with their romance once they were discovered.

Peter and Carla moved back to Weatherfield after a few months of cohabitation in Los Angeles, where they quickly scheduled a wedding date.

Sadly, old habits die hard, and after having an affair with Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan), which finally resulted in her being killed by Carla’s brother Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis), Peter was soon caught up in it.

Carla left Peter when their romance was discovered, but they would ultimately reconcile, and in 2019 they formally announced their relationship before being married in 2020.

But, the couple is getting ready to part ways after three years of marriage, but not before sharing one final dinner.

After that, Peter exits the apartment and is moved to see his whole family—save for Simon Barlow (Alex Bain), who is there to wish him farewell.

As he bids them all goodbye with tears, Peter assures Ken Barlow (William Roache) that they will stay in contact.

Will the pair be able to accept a future without one another now that Peter is leaving?
