TV star defends ‘straight person at Lorraine’ over calls to have them fired

A mistake was made while sending Lorraine’s entertainment correspondent Ria Hebden to the Dancing On Ice studio to speak with Claire Sweeney.

As they were enjoying a pleasant conversation about her experience on the ITV skating series so far, her name came up on the screen to provide fans with any more information they may need.

A box labeled “Claire Sweeney” was located in the lowest part of the screen. Everything is going OK so far. However, what can only be characterized as a catastrophe emerged underneath her name. The caption’s author demonstrated their lack of knowledge of British performers named Claire by writing “Steps singer” instead of actress, singer, TV star, theater virtuoso, or “triple threat.”

The person (or people) behind the scenes at Lorraine most likely mistook Coronation Street star Sweeney for Claire Richards, a superb actress who is, of course, a Steps singer. Perhaps the author was just seeing Sweeney picking up the 5,6,7,8 choreography and going on the band’s next tour.

Comedy account Hunsnet noticed the mistake and posted: “A straight person is gerrin a disciplinary for this.”

“You really do know your Richards from your Sweeneys, baby.” Sidenote can’t wait to see @claire.I simply know she’s going to bring us some Hunnery, so sweeney is definitely bringing the razzle dazzle to @dancingonice,” they said.

Naturally, 52-year-old Sweeney handled it well and said, “I’m so flattered to be in Steps ❤️ and Thankyou for the support xxx,” in response to the Instagram photo.

After six hours, Sweeney returned. She obviously didn’t want to get anybody in trouble, as seen by the second remark she posted to let everyone know how much she didn’t care.

She wrote, “Easy mistake, it’s happened before. And I am a huge Steps fan 5678.”

“I’m so relieved that this wasn’t just something I noticed!” “Get ’em sacked,” said Lela_y91 on Instagram.

“I mean they got 50% right, maybe they took a half day,” the Leen_stagram account joked. This serves as a fantastic reminder for all of us to plan our yearly leave for 2024!

Sffjns, another individual, joked that firing them wasn’t enough and that they need to go “straight to jail.”

Ian “H” Watkins, a real Steps member, also saw the post and only left five laughing emoji comments.

Christine Lampard, who was presenting the program today in lieu of Lorraine Kelly, expressed her regret for the oversight.

‘Now we have to apologize to all our viewers for an unacceptable onscreen blunder on yesterday’s broadcast, in our behind-the-scenes special with Ria. I was not involved in it, but we accidentally revealed that Steps vocalist Claire Sweeney, a legend from the serial opera, was really a singer.

The internet is furious, outraged—Claire Richards, of course—but Claire Sweeney has answered, stating, “I’m so flattered to be in Steps and thank you for the support,” the speaker said. We express our love to both of the Claires—always a soldier.

In 2025, we see an ITV drama based on this sequence of events.

Sweney discussed how things were going with Ria during their conversation, and it seems that there are other teams outside the Lorraine team who also need to address the bottom third.

“I can fake it really well up to my waist, but when you put blades on your feet, it’s not the same,” she said.
