Everyone believed that Bethany Platt’s (Lucy Fallon) journalistic career was doing well when she just returned to Coronation Street.
After departing in 2020 to complete an internship, Bethany was employed in London. When she made a surprise holiday appearance, she quickly resumed her romance with Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).
However, after her return, she has been rather reclusive. According to Lucy Fallon, Bethany is trying to hide something about her reason for returning to Weatherfield.
She said, “She’s basically been forced to return.” She sort of felt compelled to return because of something that occurred in London, but she isn’t saying anything about it yet. She’s keeping her motivation for returning somewhat under wraps.
Future episodes will see Bethany’s actions become a little more dubious. When Daniel approaches her while she’s working on an essay, she essentially ignores him and responds with a vague response.
When she phones her publisher about the piece after Daniel leaves, she is shocked to hear that they are not interested in it.
When Daniel informs Bethany it’s her time to get him tea, she responds that she’s too busy and has a deadline to fulfil, giving the impression that this isn’t just one instance of rejection.
She next checks her bank balance, which is already overdrawn, as we can see. It seems that Bethany is not having the success she had promised.
To see whether she can receive any employment from the Weatherfield Gazette, she makes the decision to contact them. Suzi, the editor, declines her request but mentions that Chit-Chat Magazine could be on the lookout for someone.
Is Bethany going to be hired at Chit-Chat? Although working for a gossip magazine would help her financially, Bethany never saw herself as a professional journalist. Not to mention Daniel’s potential reaction as an intellectual snob.
